@Martposting The rare times when I have to use it on mobile are painful. Unskippable airbnb ads, 2 or 3 ads in a row, multiple unskippable ads in a row. Hellish
@eshear@Paracelsus1092 The English government in 1500 was much more capable of projecting power into its hinterland than the modern Papuan state, and witch hunts were not considered a crime in London which the crown was incapable of prosecuting
Rw twitter now thinks the exact same mindset Ian Smith had when determining voting rights in Rhodesia is 'I fucking loce science' Reddit metaphysics, I see.
Checking below the hood of my based anthropology and it’s just ‘I fucking love science’ Reddit metaphysic with some 19th century race realism thrown in.
Given witchcraft has been a discussion topic today I want to mention that I think the Basque word for witch, sorguina, is pretty cool. It comes from Latin 'sortis' (luck/fate) and Basque 'eguiñ' (to make), so in Basque a witch is a "luckmaker"
@PronomianC The Ugandan villagers that sacrifice children over witchcraft accusations might be right about the kids being able to bend spoons with their minds or whatever but that doesn't mean they're right in killing them
@PronomianC I also think that anyone except the Papuan government and maybe Australia whenever they're done pretending PNG is a real country should just let them do their thing, but emulating their superstitions when living in the West is not a good thing to do
@PronomianC Even if such people with psychic/magical abilities exist in the Papuan jungle I don't think murdering entire families on the suspicion of being espers is justifiable under any legal system beyond 'ooga booga pig died, witch fault'
