The Broncos will not hold joint practices this preseason.
Sean Payton: "There's a reason why: because of the postseason and we pushed things back here. When you do have a joint practice, you miss maybe two days of installation."
What we learned w/Broncos today:
-Bo Nix did not practice
-Sean Payton stated Bo is throwing before practice and expected to practice in two weeks
-Waddle on his game: "Fast. Physical. Exciting."
-Waddle on Bo: "He's a tremendous player. He's a playmaker"
-Jonah Elliss "home" is at OLB, per SP
-No joint practices this year
-Courtland Sutton on sharing targets with Waddle: "I want to win games"
-Sutton called Davis Webb a "mad scientist" & "KNOWS" he's ready for play calling
-Talanoa Hufanga has been on the jugs machine all offseason to pick off more passes
NEW: @SeanPayton joined me for one of the best conversations I have had this offseason.
We got into:
- Bo Nix's recovery and why Denver is not worried
- Why he traded for Jalen Waddle
- The 2017 draft and how close the Saints were to drafting Patrick Mahomes
- What a successful 2026 season looks like for the @Broncos

"You can just feel his instincts, his quickness and his ability to really not only run fast but stop fast."
WR Jaylen Waddle off to strong start as Broncos begin OTAs » https://t.co/mz8eCH8p5i
Emptying out the notebook more from OTAs: thought Red Murdock looked great. Never saw him out of place and fit gaps really well, accidentally popped Michael Bandy on a slant. Taurean York drew some hurrahs in coverage on a rep too.
#Broncos have some rookie ILB depth.
BTW: Maybe Sean Payton and Davis Webb dialed it up for media viewing but there seemed to be focus on passes to TE Evan Engram during the earlier portion of the OTA session Thursday.
#Bronco players scheduled to participate in Healthy Swings HR contest at Coors Field tonight:
Alex Singleton
Pat Surtain II
Nik Bonitto*
Courtland Sutton**
RJ Harvey
Wil Lutz
Kris Abrams-Draine
Malcolm Roach
Adam Trautman
Jaleel McLaughlin
*Bonitto may not swing as he's coming off wrist injury.
**Sutton is defending HR champ from 2024. (Event rained out last year).
Asked Sean Payton on Jahdae Barron’s utilization entering Year 2. Made clear they still see him as able to play inside/outside, but confirmed they expect him to compete at outside CB.
Will be one of the most interesting developments through camp.
Jaylen Waddle and Courtland Sutton were very complimentary of each other today.
Jaylen talking about playing next to Court:
"Courtland is an elite playmaker, so anytime you have a playmaker on the other side of you, it’s just makes it easy. It’s someone that the defense has to be looking for, and vice versa.”
Asked Courtland Sutton today if he'd sacrifice targets to have Jaylen Waddle help open up easier looks for him.
"I don't think we have any individual personalities that are saying, 'Hey, I need this, I need that.' I think we got a bunch of guys willing to put their pride aside."
Courtland Sutton, unprompted: “I don’t like the bashing of our tight end room. I’m going to say that publicly. I think we have great tight ends. I think they do their job really, really well.”
#Broncos coming off injuries from last year and participating in OTA practice today:
Brandon Jones, S
J.K. Dobbins, RB
Drew Sanders, OLB
Matt Peart, OL
Johnny Walker, OLB
Courtland Sutton was asked if he’s okay surrendering some targets for the good of the team: “I want to win games”
Made it clear he will do whatever it takes to win. Added last year was a good example
