Thika Magistrate Spares Youth Criminal Record, Orders Simple Compensation for Sh1,800 Whiskey

Thika Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo showed compassion to a 23-year-old student charged with stealing a bottle of whiskey worth Sh1,800 from Naivas Supermarket, advising him to compensate the retailer instead of facing a criminal record. Lawyers in court volunteered to help raise the repayment amount, allowing the young man to secure his freedom.

The magistrate noted that it would be unjust to stain his future over such a minor incident and urged him to make the payment and avoid trouble with the law going forward.
