This is one thing I appreciate my dad for.

He fought hard. Very very hard to break this cycle.

His own father disowned him for converting to Christianity.

The man literally said "I do not have a son called Lati again" (Lateef was his muslim name).

His name was not in the list of kids when his dad's lineage was printed in the funeral book.

In fact, my dad didn't know for almost a year that his dad had died.

Same with his mum. Didn't know for about 3 months.

But that man labored to let us know that we were loved.

He said "I love you a lot", but more importantly, he prayed.

Oh God, that man prayed.

I have a prayer book in my office, in it is a transcription of the prayer he wrote for me when I was 1 year old.

He said, I don't have a lot of money to give you as inheritance, but what I have, I will do it to the uttermost, and he did it.

That man has read that prayer diligently every day since I was 1 till I was, I think 26.

One of the lines there, was that God will lead me to find the bones of my bones and the flesh of my flesh.

Another one was that God will quicken me with the tongue of the learned, and open my eyes to behold wisdom daily.

Every single thing he prayed for has become a reality in my life, every single one.

I always say it, that if I become half the man he was, I have suceeded.

He was that impactful.

In all honesty, while there are a few things I would have loved him to do more of when I growing up, looking back, it has always been clear that I have been loved at home.

Loudly and lavishly.
