@GenXGMO@Sachinettiyil The dude had to read the Hail Mary off of a piece of paper. I don't understand why Christians would have any problem with veiling. French Christian women used to do it too.
@jean_lop7@Sachinettiyil You're right! He had to read the prayer from a piece of paper! How pathetic. Christians should have no problem with the hijab. French women worse something similar up until what a hundred years ago?
@Treeo_of_one@MoundLore I like the idea of a somewhat earlier coastal migration that had a hard time getting established around 20kya and then another wave coming across from Siberia, this time with dogs.
@Nina772217@sopjap Igor Moiseyev, a Ukrainian-born Communist, lead a movement heavily sponsored by the Soviet state to reinterpret and embellish folk dance across the Soviet Union. This was supported by state funding and training programs. He took traditional dance and added ballet like we see here
@dieworkwear The more interesting question is how the Western suit came to dominate dress worldwide. Why did the most powerful members of societies across Asia decide that dressing like a foreign bank clerk was more dignified than the traditional clothing of their class?
@MoundLore When I was a kid up at Boy Scout camp I was walking back to the camp site by star light during a new moon. It was can't see your hand in front of your face pitch black once I got into the woods. What must have been a black bear ambled across the path about 10 feet in front of me.
@marcvelitrae@sunnyright It's got to be really hard to decide on a direction for the franchise right now. A womanizing MI6 Agent gallivanting around the world in luxury fighting bad guys doesn't really play as a character we want to identify with. Setting them during the actual Cold War might work well.
@sunnyright He's a little old to be Bond at this point. I'd love the next Bond to be an absolute smarmy asshole of a blue-blooded Brit. He can do all the womanizing and such from the old movies, but we should hate him for it a little bit.
@ProfSteveKeen For most crops missing a year of fertilization only leads to a partial loss of yield. That's still an issue, but the bigger problem is farmers deciding not to plant when they can't fertilize, as the lower expected yields make it uneconomical at normal prices.
@xfebuse@ArtemisConsort This is an underrated cause. Women are portrayed as mothers far less often in media than they are in reality, and rarely as protagonists or love interests if they are mothers. This skews the perception of what's normal. Maybe we need a Bechdel test for mothers and children.
@Jonpy99 I get the impression they don't like their T-80βs as much as the T-90's and upgraded T-72βs. Are they maintenance hogs compared to the T-72 based tanks?
@Tropikokonut@fawnn404 It all depends on what we have for political leadership, which is what scares me the most. Best case we emerge from this with considerably better quality of life for the average person, but if the old elite retain control they might be fine letting everywhere outside NYC collapse
