News: Seven #Ethiopian armed groups formally announce formation of a coalition

Seven Ethiopian opposition and armed groups have formally announced the formation of a coalition they called the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Coalition for Survival, declaring a joint objective of “removing” the Prosperity Party-led government and establishing an “inclusive transitional government.”

In its statement released today, the newly established ‘Coalition for Survival’ accused the Prosperity Party-led government of presiding over what it described as widespread insecurity, armed conflict, displacement, poverty and the erosion of democratic and human rights.

The coalition comprises the Amhara Fano National Movement, Oromo Liberation Army , Tigray People’s Liberation Front , Ogaden National Liberation Front , Afar National Unity Revolutionary Front, Benishangul Peoples’ Liberation Movement, and Gumuz Peoples’ Democratic Movement.

News: 16 killed, more than 16 women and children abducted in armed attack in #Gurage_Zone, residents say

At least 16 civilians were killed and more than 16 women and children were abducted during an armed attack in #Abshge_District of the Gurage Zone in Central #Ethiopia Regional State on Monday night, according to residents who spoke to Addis Standard.

A resident of #Walda Town in Abashge District said the violence began at around 8:30 p.m. on September 14, when a child aged between seven and 10 was killed. The resident said community members subsequently gathered at a mourning house to offer condolences, where armed men arrived and opened fire, killing several people.
