OMG the poor woman

A PENSIONER is fighting for her life in hospital after she was attacked in Dundalk this afternoon.

The woman, in her 80s, is understood to have been targeted by a man with a hatchet.

Two other people were also injured after the frenzied attack after they are believed to have gone to the woman's aid.

The incident happened close to Louth County Hospital.

Gardai rushed to the scene after an alarm was raised by a neighbour and arrested a man.

He's being held on suspicion of assault causing harm.

Gardai aren't looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The investigation is being run by officers from Dundalk Garda station.

Officers do not believe the incident is terrorist related.

One source said: "This was a shocking attack on three defenceless people.
