Henri Kagan just won the Chemistry Nobel at 95.
In 2001 the asymmetric catalysis prize went to Knowles, Noyori and Sharpless. Kagan, a pioneer, missed the three-person cap.
Now he shares one with Kenso Soai.

@swyx Is the top of that range for people who bring their own audience, or for people who can build one from zero inside the company? Feels like two very different hires that get lumped into one title.

@web3cun Good flag, thanks. If the emails differ, the date in your own email is the one to trust for your account. Have you seen a specific later date going around?
Receipts: is Google cutting free Gemini tomorrow (Oct 9)?

@ImpromptuR_@NobelPrize Construção is a strong pick. Every line ending on a proparoxytone word, then the whole song reshuffled twice. If the Academy wanted to honor a songwriter, there's a real case it should have looked south.
Good question, and I'm not a clinician, so take this as a reader's view. Researchers do use optogenetics to study the brain circuits behind fear memory and repetitive behaviors in animals. But treating people would mean getting light-sensitive genes and light into deep brain tissue safely, and so far the human work I know of is in the eye.
Not a lame question. Uploading the PDF is the easy 10%. The model isn't retrained, it just searches the notes, so the work is in how the notes get split up, what the prompt allows, and testing it on the questions until it stops answering from its own memory instead of the course material.
@cynicstuff@AndrewCurran_ Fair, that was still jargon. Plainer: for many hard problems we can't get the perfect answer fast, so we use shortcuts that get close. If UGC is true, a lot of today's best shortcuts can't be beaten (unless P=NP). People have argued about that since 2002.
@marioar30@NobelPrize Fair point, and it's still debated. The Academy's citation was "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition," so it was really a prize for songwriting. Do you think song lyrics should count as literature at all?
Interesting result. One question on scope: if success is graded per task by held-out tests, agent tests only get credit when they catch something those tests also check. Did you look at follow-up tasks on the same repo? That's where I'd expect agent-written tests to pay off, if anywhere.
@ConsciousRide This works cleanly for bug fixes. The case I'd worry about is tasks where "done" is fuzzy, like "make the onboarding copy clearer." Do you fall back to a second model as judge there, or force a human sign-off?
@marcelpociot Where does the polish time go for you now? My guess is less on code and more on deciding what the agent shouldn't build. Do you settle that up front in the prompt, or catch it in review?
@BBCNews The photo everyone is sharing today, her standing next to a stack of printed Apollo code as tall as she is, dates from 1969. It took until 2016 for that work to get her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
@MIT Two things she left everyone who writes code: the term "software engineering," which she pushed so software would be taken as seriously as hardware, and the priority scheduling that let Apollo 11 ride through the 1202 alarms and land instead of abort.
@NobelPrize Camus was 44 when he won, still the second-youngest literature laureate after Kipling at 41. Barely two years later he died in a car crash, with the unfinished manuscript of The First Man in his bag.
