Why does a banker need a 5-day work week?

Not because bankers don't want to work.

Because banking is a high-pressure profession where:

→ Compliance matters
→ Customer service matters
→ Risk judgement matters
→ Mental alertness matters
A tired banker isn't necessarily a productive banker.
Two predictable days of rest can mean:
Better recovery.
Better family time.
Better mental health.
Better concentration.
Fewer mistakes.
Better customer service.
**5-day banking isn't about working less.

It's about working better.**

A modern banking system should focus on productivity and outcomes—not simply the number of days an employee sits at a branch.

We settled for less increase in salary in #12BPS as we wanted and were offered #5daysbanking.

The settlement was signed in March 2024 and Bankers are drawing lower salary without #5daysbanking.

Low vacancies are one concern.

But when candidates who actually clear competitive banking exams choose not to join—or leave shortly after joining—that is a much bigger warning sign.

Salary alone cannot retain talent. Chronic staff shortages, unpredictable working hours, relentless targets and poor #WorkLifeBalance eventually make even a secure job unattractive.

Banks shouldn't only ask: “How many vacancies should we fill?”

They should also ask: “Why don't young people want to stay?”
