In the icy silence of the Kargil peaks, where the wind cuts sharper than any blade, young men once stood — not for glory, not for medals, but for the soil beneath our feet.

They climbed into the clouds with rifles heavier than their years, left behind mothers’ prayers, wives’ tears, and children’s incomplete dreams. Many never came back. Their blood froze into the rocks of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Point 4875… and from that sacrifice, a nation rose taller.

Today we do not merely celebrate a victory.
We bow our heads to the quiet courage that refused to surrender even when the world slept.
We remember the letters written in trembling hands, the last smiles captured in fading photographs, and the empty chairs that still wait at home.

To every soldier who became a mountain that day —
Thank you for giving us a sky free of fear.
Thank you for turning “Kargil” into a synonym for unbreakable will.

We live because you chose not to.
We smile because you chose to bleed.
We stand tall because you chose to fall for us.
