Join Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger as he leads us on a journey of faith, guiding our hearts and prayers with compassion and wisdom. Stay connected with his messages, reflections, and updates by following him on his new social media accounts.
Over the past five years, Eyes on Jesus has become one of the most joyful ways to be about my ministry of teaching. I am deeply grateful to my cohosts, Mike and Mary, for accompanying me in this effort to share the Gospel of Christ in a new way. I also thank all who have listened and supported us in your prayers.
In this time of reflection and transition, let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and thank God ahead of time for the graces and blessings he will bestow upon us through the leadership of Archbishop Weisenburger.

With a heart full of gratitude, I offer my deepest thanks to my brother priests who gathered for farewell Vespers at Sacred Heart Major Seminary yesterday. I am humbled by the strength of our bond in Christ and grateful for the blessing of your presence, prayers, and support in my ministry. Please be assured of my continued prayers for all of you in my retirement.
Shrine offers pilgrims a unique opportunity to walk with Jesus' life on earth: Step on the square stone near the tabernacle, a gift from Bethlehem presented by St. John Paul II, and walk to the stone inside the St. Thérèse Chapel, a gift from Calvary presented by the Vatican.
As we continue our journey through the Jubilee Year 2025, Pope Francis calls us to deepen our faith through pilgrimage and prayer. While Rome is a distant destination for some, the Archdiocese of Detroit offers a sacred journey closer to home: The National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, which stands as a beacon of hope and spiritual renewal.
Visitors are invited to walk in the footsteps of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, pray before her relics, and experience the peace of this sacred space dedicated to the “Little Flower.” The Basilica, with its rich history and vibrant faith, offers a place of reflection and grace during this Holy Year.
In this Year of Hope, the National Shrine of the Little Flower invites you to make a pilgrimage of the heart to encounter God’s love and mercy. As we reflect on our shared faith, let us be reminded of the words of St. Thérèse: “I will spend my heaven doing good on earth.”

On today's Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, let us unite in prayer for his successor, Pope Francis, asking God to grant him comfort, healing, and strength in this time of trial. I have asked all parishes in the @archofdet to include these intentions in their weekend Masses.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger, Bishop of Tucson, as Archbishop of Detroit. Archbishop-elect Weisenburger will be introduced during a 10 a.m. press conference. Watch at https://t.co/nFLccFvZYD.
In missioning Archbishop Weisenburger to be the chief shepherd of the Archdiocese of Detroit, Our Holy Father Pope Francis is giving us a pastor he knows to be zealous and wise. Grateful to the Archbishop for his faith-filled generosity in accepting the call to serve us, let us respond by extending to him a most heartfelt welcome.
I take it to be a grace of God the Father’s Providence that today’s announcement comes on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes; her patronage has blessed and inspired my ministry, and in my priestly service I rely on the help of her prayers.
For this month's EOJ, we reflect on the Sacrament of Marriage—its deep roots in Scripture, its call to unity and fruitfulness, and how the Church’s understanding differs from the secular view. I pray it helps couples grow in holiness and faith.

It was a joy to celebrate Mass this morning with consecrated men and women who serve in the @ArchofDet. Their dedication and prayerful witness inspire us all to deeper faith. May God bless and strengthen them in their vocations, and may they be a light to all they encounter.
Let us lift in prayer the men who attended this weekend’s Discernment Retreat at @shmsdetroit. May God grant them clarity and courage as they continue to listen attentively to His call and discern their vocation.
Over the next four days, men from across the @ArchofDet will gather for a Discernment Weekend at @shmsdetroit where they will enter into an intentional period of priestly discernment. Please pray the Discernment Weekend is a fruitful time of prayer, discernment, and fraternity.
I look forward each year to celebrating Mass for Catholic Schools Week, attended by students, faculty, and staff from throughout the @ArchofDet. Echoing the national theme for this week, let us pray our schools are "United in Faith and Community" as they continue their mission of forming and educating disciples of Christ.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking with students at Detroit Cristo Rey who have received educational scholarships. May God continue to guide them on their journey, and may they always be a light of hope and compassion in their families, the community, and the world.
Throughout this Jubilee Year, @DetroitCatholic plans to highlight each of the 12 @archofdet pilgrimage sites, beginning with the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. Come as pilgrims of hope to pray with relics, reflect on the Jubilee Cross, and deepen your faith.
As we enter the Jubilee Year 2025, Pope Francis invites Catholics to embark on a pilgrimage of hope. While Rome may be the destination for some, the Archdiocese of Detroit offers sacred pilgrimage sites right here at home.
The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament is honored to be a designated pilgrimage site, where visitors can experience the Journey with the Saints exhibit, pray with relics, and reflect on the significance of the Jubilee Cross, made from the charred beams of Detroit’s former SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral.
In this Year of Hope, the Cathedral invites all to deepen their faith through prayer, reflection, and the Holy Eucharist. As Fr. JJ Mech, rector of the Cathedral, reminds us, “A pilgrimage transforms us, and it’s a journey we are called to continue throughout our lives.” Join us in 2025 as we walk together on this path of faith and renewal.

This morning, I had the privilege of celebrating Mass and sharing breakfast with the cloistered nuns of the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament in Farmington Hills. Let us remember them in our prayers and thank God for these hidden intercessors who offer everything for His glory.
Today, on the Feast of the Holy Family, I had the joy of celebrating Mass with the Rite for the Solemn Opening of the Jubilee Year of Hope. As we begin this pilgrimage, may we encounter Christ in every moment, grow in unity, and walk with hope toward eternal life.
I wish you a blessed and Merry Christmas! Let us give thanks today and every day for the gift of Christ and the hope he brings. May this holy season bring you peace, joy, and a renewed sense of God's love.
The Door is open, it is wide open! Come! Let us be reconciled with God, and then we will be reconciled with ourselves and able to be reconciled with one another, even our enemies. #Christmas#Jubilee2025
In anticipation of the upcoming 2025 Jubilee, I offer this episode of EOJ on the history of jubilees in the Church, the significance of this year's theme "Pilgrims of Hope," and the opportunities for pilgrimage here in the @archofdet.

I am grateful for the opportunity to gather today with religious superiors of communities in the @archofdet. The dedication and unwavering service of those in consecrated life are a true gift to our local church. Thank you for living out your vocations with faith, love, and sacrifice.
For more than 700 years, Jubilee years have served as holy periods of time to pause, pray, seek the Lord’s pardon, and praise him for his merciful grace.
The 2025 Jubilee Year is an awesome opportunity for us to be pilgrims together, whether physically in Rome or right here in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Archbishop Allen Vigneron has designated several sites throughout the AOD where the faithful will be able to pray the official prayer for Jubilee Year 2025 and unite themselves spiritually with all who will journey as pilgrims to Rome.
