Because of a nurse advocating, I got one of the best moments of my life; Thomas’ first cuddle. Because of a nurse challenging, I have life long memories. Because of a nurse’s compassion, my son died with dignity & respect.
EVERY SINGLE MOMENT MATTERS

Great day at the @DetectStudy Dissemination Event last week where Kyra Davies, Data Scientist, presented our work on developing heart rate and respiratory rate percentile curves for hospitalized children in the UK to help identify early deterioration signs in children👏👩💻
This is PPIE in action. When designing the cost effectiveness component of the study, the parents wanted the focus to be wider than hospital costs @jen_preston1 @GenrYPAGs @DetectStudy
Inspirational @gerri_sefton and @DetectStudy team presenting great results @AlderHey on electronic tracking and escalation to prevent critical deterioration #Children. Improved CDE and sepsis prevention, cost effectiveness. Data on PEWS perfomance, HR and RR thresholds & more
More needs to be done to prevent it. But to reduce the morbidity & mortality associated with critical deterioration, a national focus is needed, with reporting of cases, critical care & hospital outcome, & long-term outcome data from survivors. #DETECTstudy@NHSImprovement 3/3
As we come to the end of the event @gerri_sefton says children admitted to hospital don't have the same baseline risk for having a subsequent critical deterioration. Antecedent risk factors contribute including age, previous HDU or PICU admission & high-risk patient groups... 1/3
These risk factors should be acknowledged in clinical documentation, because those children have reduced capacity to compensate when they become seriously unwell. And as critical deterioration in children has consequences for the child, their family, & healthcare providers... 2/3
