More needs to be done to prevent it. But to reduce the morbidity & mortality associated with critical deterioration, a national focus is needed, with reporting of cases, critical care & hospital outcome, & long-term outcome data from survivors. #DETECTstudy @NHSImprovement 3/3
Following their presentations, @CarterBernie & @DrHolly_Saron are now asked questions by those in attendance about how the parents of children in hospital can support in identifying signs of critical deterioration, how staff can be supported in using devices, & more #DETECTstudy

Amazing to see all the dedication to ensure that children and young people have a voice π#DETECTstudy
Next, we have Jennifer Preston presenting qualitative findings and talking about the importance of involving parents and young people in research as part of the #DETECTstudy !

.@CarterBernie shares key findings from healthcare professionals who took part in the #DETECTstudy:
1β£ Clinical utility & acceptability were higher in staff who were mandated to use the DETECT system to document vital signs compared to staff using DETECT to respond to alerts 1/3

The final talk that we have for today is a qualitative study on the initial experiences and perceptions as well as the acceptability of electronic surveillance systems from clinical staff and health professionals as part of the #DETECTstudy by @CarterBernie !!

After analysing interviews conducted with parents of patients who took part in the #DETECTstudy, @DrHolly_Saron, Research Fellow @edgehill, says she found parents trusted that the DETECT technology would support the care healthcare professionals provided, to keep their child safe

Next we have @CarterBernie presenting a qualitative study project about the acceptability and clinical utility of the #DETECTstudy to parents and clinical staff!

.@CarterBernie, Professor of Children's Nursing @edgehill shares the findings of our #DETECTstudy survey & what they mean for the clinical utility & acceptability of a whole-hospital, pro-active electronic paediatric early warning system (DETECT) to parents & health professionals

The second presentation by Dr Eduardo Costa is looking at the analysis of health economics when it comes to the cost-effectiveness of implementing Careflow Vitals! #DETECTstudy

3β£ It's also important to factor in productivity losses for the carers of hospitalised children that experience Critical Deterioration Events. As around 50% of the carers report days taken off work amounting to Β£195/week of lost wages #DETECTstudy 3/3
The first talk that we have after lunch which explores the economic side of the #DETECTstudy! Dr Eduardo Costa is discussing the economic burden experienced by the carers of children who have had a critical deterioration event.

CΓ©u Mateus, Professor of Health Economics @LancasterUni says "Critical deterioration in inpatients is a substantial added cost for healthcare delivery, when evaluated by national tariff for HRG, or by patient level costs, which is why preventing deterioration is key" #DETECTstudy

Abbey also highlighted that sub-specialty analysis of PEWS performance was also very good, so a standardised PEWS risk model is generalisable to all children admitted to hospital #DETECTstudy
Gerri adds that the use of electronic proactive #sepsis screening for all in-patients did not increase workload, and was associated with a significant reduction in sepsis critical deterioration #DETECTstudy @UKSepsisTrust @SepsisUK @UKsepsisnurses 2/2
.@gerri_sefton, Co-Chief Investigator of the #DETECTstudy @AlderHey, talks about how modifications to the NICE sepsis screening were made following the evaluation of whole hospital proactive screening for one year 1/2

As part of the last talk before lunchtime, @SeftonGerri, where she has discussed modifications to the NICE sepsis guidelines to aid pro-active sepsis screening!
#DETECTstudy

Dr Steven Lane is up next! He has presented his findings about the evaluation of clinical utility of Careflow Vitals and the modelling of data to improve age-specific PEWS risk models as part of the #DETECTstudy.

The #DETECTstudy utilised modelling of data from hospitalised patients @AlderHey, who didn't have a critical deterioration, to provide evidence-based thresholds for respiratory & heart rates that could be used to help identify early warning signs of deterioration in children 2/3
