THIS MORNING: We're checking up on the health of the Detroit River, and other waterways that impact people in Michigan & Canada. There's some good news and some bad. Let's start with the good. Here's Dr. John Hartig @GLIERUWINDSOR@wxyzdetroit@DetroitRvrfrnt@DetroitRiverSoS
Based off the findings of the 11th biennial report from @DetroitRiverSoS, a joint US & Canadian panel of scientists and other stakeholders, #ClimateChange is exacerbating multiple #GreatLakes threats. https://t.co/Gvcp5kce8v
Without a commitment to science-based
quantitative target setting and long-term monitoring, management is flying blind. #detroitriver#lakeerie#GreatLakes [4/4]
Today, we released the latest State of the Strait report, “Checkup: Assessing Ecosystem Health of the Detroit River and Western Lake Erie.” This report is based on the evaluation of long-term datasets on 61 indicators of ecosystem health. https://t.co/rTadgk7oCr [1/4]
Continued priority must be placed on science-based, quantitative, target setting for ecosystem integrity. Long-term monitoring is essential to practice adaptive management that assesses state of the ecosystem, sets management priorities, and implements management
actions [3/4]
Our RAP Coordinator updated the Soft Shoreline and the Canadian Habitat Restoration in the Detroit River indicator reports. Check out these and the other indicator reports here: https://t.co/QSQzFksUSW #detroitriver#GreatLakes#areasofconcern
An indicator is a measurable feature that provides useful information on ecosystem status, quality or trends and the factors that affect them. The DRCC is part of the Detroit River-Western Lake Erie indicator project, which recently updated its indicators. @DetroitRiverSoS
TOMORROW!
Learn about phyto and zooplankton sampling on the Detroit River, the state of our coastal wetlands, and which type of fish people eat from the river at our 9th annual Detroit River Evening.
