@mjwgoblue I don’t trust any of your figures but your obsession on what our only public transit system stands to gain vs. what taxpayers would pay is telling. To improve a system with rapidly increasing ridership it would cost the owner of a $200,000 about $8 a month

This new millage would require more management with proposed lines to 17 new cities and DDOT folded in. Duh

There’s plenty we can do to advocate for improvements. Looking forward to seeing you disappear once you don’t have a public resource to gut.

But this is an intentional divide and conquer strategy pitting cities against each other when we all deserve good public transit. It’s been sabotaged by something called opt outs that exist nowhere else.

I’m sure with your shack you’ll be paying a fraction of that. Everyone’s right to get around without a car matters more than your city’s made up right to opt out.

These were by and large not open votes but administrators and officials deciding to renew white flight holdover policies.

@mjwgoblue I know. That’s why I qualified it. It was 20 years ago and only 10 after the opt out system was implemented. It was a bad idea then and even worse now.

@mjwgoblue So not only has Detroit never been the same type of opt out community, all the money raised in Detroit from this millage goes directly to Detroit public transit and DDOT.

@mjwgoblue For the record virtually no voter has had opting out on their ballot until this August. It’s been decided by administrators and officials. Detroit has its own bus system already which has no dedicated funding for transit.

@mjwgoblue The only new tax is the 17 opt out cities would pay what everyone else in the TriCounty area has been paying to have a public transit system at all. For some reason you like this white flight administrative relic so much you want to deprive the other 26?

@mjwgoblue A couple of those routes didn’t materialize amid a systemwide driver shortage and I’m glad that you’re joining Transit Riders United in holding them to improvements! The solution is not to completely defund them across our county.

@mjwgoblue Sure they’re going to be able to keep expanding and creating more fixed route buses in a county that they’re receiving $0 in dedicated funding from. Reliable transit requires reliable funding. We’re talking 1 mill. It’s less than $8 a month for home worth $200k

@mjwgoblue You’re referring to the revenue collected from the popular millages that Oakland and Macomb keep renewing. It’s exactly the same millage we’re voting for or against in Wayne County and guess what? They are expanding and DDOT benefits too!
