@benz145 Behind, but not for the reason you are probably asking about. As I age, I have become more of a "daytime person" and the best moments are happening while the sun is up.
@benz145 We also know they don't believe it to be social apps. The free to play gorilla tag type apps don't feel like enough revenue to keep Meta interested. Mainstream consumer VR is unfortunately quite adrift 10 years on.
@NeitroV ...and the detail of the rental car feels like a call back to the leaked photo that we saw a couple months back, that showed their friendship in conflict with the storyline. They have used their real world friendship to work our emotions, perhaps they are doing it one last time.
@NeitroV I'm still hopeful this is partially a work. It wouldn't surprise me if she wants to move back home. Maybe one last surprise appearance at Backlash to tie things up if there is time left on the current deal. Iyo's message feels uncharacteristically and suspiciously open for her..
@David_Jagneaux I don't disagree, but worry it is too late to pivot. The biggest red flag for me was how little attention this side of their business got featured at Connect '25. It feels like VR is fading from the portfolio. Sure they could be a VR console OEM, but do they really want that?
@Rengle820@willahmed I completely agree, but too often they aren't being sold as tools. They are being sold as magic to replace those pesky engineers that a lot of non-technical leaders fantasize about replacing. The AI models are going to turn all their PowerPoint masterpieces into reality!
@ShakCentral@golfplusvr I have happy memories hitting a virtual bucket of balls after work at the old VR Top Golf during pandemic times. That place is gone now and replaced with a kind of ugly looking, not nearly as charming, and very cramped Vegas themed environment.
@golfplusvr is a fascinating case study in the games as a service era. The game I bought in 2021 no longer exists and has been replaced with something very different. I got my money's worth out of the old product, but much prefer it and miss the it compared to what it is now.
@ShakCentral@golfplusvr It was a far more casual game in its original version (Pro Putt/Top Golf). Iβm not a golfer, and I donβt know that I would have bought an 18-hole PGA tour sponsored golf game, but I have one now by circumstance. The new Top Golf environment just isnβt as welcoming either.
@benz145 ...This move is all about meta off boarding the risk associated with manufacturing, marketing, and subsidizing specialist products. It is a reaction to the failure of the Quest Pro.
@benz145 I think this is a given though. VR/AR hardware is very complex and changing rapidly enough that a Windows/android like passive OS relationship isnβt realistic. There needs to be high levels of communication enabled by a formal partnership.
