@Stephan34682145 Aboriginals unfortunately lead many statistical list for terrible crimes across the board. This is largely due to their living situation which is often ignored by the government. The social factors that derive from their living conditions is a major issue leading to violence .
It's interesting to see that domestic violence is on the rise in Newfoundland, largely due to economy reasons. People working in transition houses are clearly seeing it. Their needs to be safe places of victims of domestic abuse. These houses need consistent funding. #gndr1000
@XieYuandi It's these terrible ideas that continue to exist today and if people continue to except old ideas, women will never get a fair chance. It's hard to believe that women are still not paid as much for the same work as men in some places. It' 2019 and we are still talking about this
It's clear that across the world women are often undervalued and not appreciated for the unpaid work they do all day. Which falls on them due to outdated and wrong socially constructed roles. It's time to start supporting women and breaking these social roles. #gndr1000
@lynelle_mercer I think that line is a perfect reason to why mental health is so quickly dismissed in society. It's one of the leading ailments to people in the world. Yet because you can;t see the trauma of mental health issues they are often ignored by healthcare workers. #gndr1000
This is just to show the issues that are come with healthcare. Whether its not treating Rachel because "women are melodramatic" or not treating the young boy because, men's mental health isn't as readily accepted. There seems to be unacceptable stigmas that exist. #gndr1000
Rachel's story is a scary reality of common health care practice. Unless you are visibly dying you will wait. Last year in NS a boy in his early 20's was turned away after attempting to take his own life. Less then 24 hours later he did take his life. #gndr1000
@WingHongLaw I think all people are unique and different in their own ways. People need to start looking at what makes them special and maket hat shine rather then trying to turn into a mold that fits an unattainable beauty standard that is being created through the media, #gndr1000
Commenting on peoples weight needs to stop. Im sure everyone has had a family member comment with things like " god you look skinny" or perhaps "look how big you're getting ". Commenting on somebody's weight is the easiest way to affect somebody's self esteem. #gndr1000
#gndr1000 After learning more about Viola Desmond in this course. I understand why my black friends hold so many black icons like Viola Desmond with such high regard. She was a trail blazer and their have been many others like her fighting for rights. The world needs more Viola.
@lauraofthesand People are quick to forget that Disney took years until they even created a black princes in 2009. If I'm not mistaken their hasn't been one since. Not only is this casting for Ariel, a good thing but Disney should continue to represent all races in their films. #gndr1000
@Stephan34682145 It's hard to believe that people still think this theory could work. All this theory does is put off racism for another generation to solve. Racism is still something that is still extremely prevalent in today's society and we need work towards ending racism now. #gndr1000
I had never heard the argument of a Multiracial population ending racism, prior to watching the assigned weekly video. The reasons the video mention disproving this theory are good. We shouldn't be waiting on a future generation but rather trying to end racism now.#gndr1000
@TaraMcCarthy101 Personally I think the use of comedy makes the talk much better. The fact she uses comedy to break the ice and make everyone feel like they shouldn't feel sorry for her, because for her anything is possible. Her stage presence is fascinating and it amplifies her story #gndr1000
Maysoon Zayid's Ted talk was brilliant. Her inspiring story is one that everyone should hear. Her talk raises a good discussion about Hollywood using non minorities to play minorities in pop culture. Visible minorities should be representing themselves in pop culture #gndr1000
@stephcoates01 This type of vocabulary is still very knew to myself and many people. The 519 glossary is very informative. This type of education is important to be able to address people both properly and in a respectful manor. #gndr1000
Growing up in the early to mid 2000's although not that long ago its amazing how many terms were used in a derogatory manor . A lot of these terms can be found in the 519 glossary but with proper and educational definitions. This type of education should be in schools.#gndr1000
@munashematowe It's hard to watch. Yet it's important to remember all over the world are trying to change family members like Kirk and it's not change these people need but it's love, and support. Hopefully society will continue to move further away from thing like this. #gndr1000
The Tans 101 video was outstanding. The information being given is done in a way for everyone to understand. They mention that it's not about knowing every gender but rather having an open mind. That's the key in today society an open mind and respecting others #gndr1000
