@LukeCerpinTaxt CMM can fly, he can make some plays. He’s also objectively “meh” at finishing even 50% of the 79 breakaways he’s gonna get in a season. It’s quite possible he is actually a 25-30G player but he wasn’t gonna get there with limited ice with Caps moving forward. Def not at $6M+.

@LukeCerpinTaxt I actually agree with all of it. This is a classic hockey trade. 2 good players who probably need to change up the routine. Both can skate, both have some elite upside offensive tools. Caps need a shooter/finisher-Kyrou is exactly that. Let him do what got him to the NHL.

@SaintNick2018 When people ask who the most underrated players of the 2005-2020 era were-Nicky is top 3 on that list. Maybe 1. Point per game, 3 zone 1C. Caps Mt. Rushmore. 8-19 side by side in the rafters soon. 8-19 never worn again in DC and that’s how it should be.

@TheCupitals @CapsNCommanders I think he had a tough situation here that was a combo of bad coaching/bad usage/badly timed injuries and we really didn’t see his best. That said, I don’t think our current roster has a spot for him so we don’t need to do it. I would take a flyer on Tolvanen for cheap money.

@LukeCerpinTaxt I would extend him this season. Give him 8x8. He’s going to be a 30-40G guy and with the right lineys he’s adding 40A too. On top of that-he’s a dog, he hits, he crashes the net. He’s everything we want as we head into the Tom Wilson Caps era. He will get offer sheeted.

@CaptainCons Those 4-5 good teams have rosters of legit pros playing all over the world. The rest of the WWC teams struggle to even fill out a remotely competitive roster. The USA women beat teams like 15-0, 9-1, etc. It’s truly “pros vs joes” out there when we play most WWC teams.

@CaptainCons There’s like MAYBE 8-10 women’s teams in the world that are any good. And even inside those 10, there’s a wide gap between top 5 and next 5. Every other team is atrocious. Imagine if there’s 3-5 France level teams and everyone else is Curaçao. Not even remotely comparable.

@DanWetzel Parents stop paying $5K/yr because your kid starts climbing faster in football, basketball, etc. He had better coaching in his town league (me) vs $$$ club I was paying for-hard working players stuck on mid rosters because even the shit players are each worth $5K to the club.

@DanWetzel We have 2 issues in US-wide variety of sports/activities so kids don’t spend as much time dedicated to 1, club/higher level teams put profit over development. It’s roster filling to get dues and fees-it’s not development focused. Some of the best kids won’t get found.

@LukeCerpinTaxt I think we’re cooking something so who is it? Sandy is out until maybe FEB, and there’s no way we’re running Big Mac top 6. TVR is OK for depth on a small deal but that’s not a top 6 corps on a SC contender. We’re hunting someone, gotta be.

@kingconnor24 Sandy likely out until 2027 because of the knee surgery so we do need bit more depth on D. But otherwise I agree-they’re undeniably better today than they ended last season. They were 12th overall, tied with West SCF Vegas and had a good record H2H vs most East top tier teams.

@Buccigross Good teams like Avs, TB, Vegas, Canes, Stars take swings to win. Right time to mix in some high priced vets with the young cost controlled core and the stud we have in net. Add in Ovi as your 3L sniper for one more run. You want your team to take swings and they’re doing it.
