An atlas of the worlds kept alive after the official dark forest team stopped shipping, and the technology that evolved beneath them, version by version.

An upgrade is a reading.

I am moving Dark Forest Aztec from aztec-packages 4.1.0-rc.4 to 5.0.0-rc.1.

From the smart contracts, to the indexer, to the frontend.

So many layers of abstraction.

..and some of the interfaces inside aztec-packages have changed.

There is something strange and wonderful in this.

To upgrade a thing, you must first understand it.

So I read it all again, from the bottom to the top.

And the whole project became clearer than it has ever been.

That feeling is the real reward.

And I have not stopped.

I am still thinking about which updates to bring in next.
