@NewsWireLK If anyone has read any of his books or listened to any of his other works this would not be a news story!
It’s how ever a cautionary story of how to build wealth. These strategies can have outstanding results and crippling consequences!
Financial education is a must.
@shahidobserves@Chinthanaz@KodikaraIshara 90% timing (being at the right place at the right time) 9% equipment (high tech high res equipment to capture that right moment) 1% skill (being focused and framed properly) when all these align you get magic like this shot!
@dillonloomis According to this logic: @elonmusk is an immigrant from South Africa to the USA, and has managed to evade taxes to become the richest man in the world.
Also he was involved in a mafia, made some cars and build some rockets! There is some evidence he stole an election too 🤣 FACT
In 1971, the US ran out of money and defaulted on its debts. Now, they didn’t say it that way. But by moving away from the gold standard, money as we understood it ended.
I expected the stock market to plunge, but it went on to rise nearly 25%. That surprised me. But when I looked into it, I discovered the exact same thing happened in 1933 and it had the exact same effect.
Here’s why.

Chamath, let me give a rebuttal point by point (respectfully, i love your life's journey) 🧵
1. China is seeing the slowest growth they’ve had in decades: True, but it is still 5.2% for China vs 2.9% for USA. They also have quality growth this time (EV, AI, Robotics, Solar) rather than ballooning real estate prices, crazy FSI services, and medical bills (which seems to be happening in USA)
2. Their attractiveness as a recipient of Foreign Domestic Investment has come to a halt.
Once USA forces countries to spend their reserves on imports from USA, its leading position as FDI recipient will evaporate as well. Also, FDI matters a lot for a country with massive trade deficit (e.g. India), China is a country with 3T reserves and trade surplus. FDI is not as critical for China as it used to be. China themselves funded the EV, Solar, Batteries and AI revolution.
3. They have a very difficult demographic problem of too many old people and not enough young people.
USA and China's median age is almost the same: 39. No matter what China is still outproducing babies even when you consider USA+EU+ANZ+Japan+Korea together👶. Great obervation by @teortaxesTex
If promise of AI & Robotics holds true, they are better off with fewer people given resource constraint on the nation.
Chinese factories are highly automated already. Also, their problem is too many well educated people compared to job.
Unlike USA far fewer people study social sciences in China and most are trained in STEM.
Also, Chinese cities (1B people live in cities) are well designed to take care of the old, with great public transport, parks, hawker centers and cheap medical facilities. Many of these things are lacking in USA.
4. They need exports - they do not have the capacity to absorb everything they create.
They can export to rest of the world who still demands Chinese products. Chinese trade with USA is only around 500B, it is not even 3% of Chinese GDP.
China's trade with ASEAN (south east asia) is already double of that with USA and still growing. Same is the case with trade with South America, Middle east, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, India etc.
Over-capacity is the most senseless economic theory of our time. USA is not that significant a trading partner for China anymore.
@bhuwan_arora@KavinduBanda@rangaba@Dailymirror_SL@Dr_HariniA SL has a very high suicide rate so maybe there should be mental health awareness for everyone. As in this situation the adults including the parents and teachers also have played a pivotal part in this tragedy.
Deepest condolences to the families involved in this tragedy 😢
@KavinduBanda@rangaba@Dailymirror_SL@Dr_HariniA Has the government investigated all suicide cases and other mental health issues at government schools?
The excuse that these institutions do not fall under the Ministry of Education is a false narrative. There are several other gov dpts who have the power to do so!
@PGMEL99@rowmewan1 And which way will the systemic changes lean? Communist (where the state owns everything) or capitalist (where the people control their own assets)?
@rajeev5sl@chef_john1 Employees, premises and other liabilities have to borne by franchisee. McDonald’s will give the rights to use name on contracts to use there equipment and systems, raw materials and recipes etc. Unfortunately Founder doesn’t get into the details of the terms and conditions 😂
