@GuffyNicola Like those who cleverly point out that Jesus wasn’t actually a Christian, PH indulges in the kind of hair-splitting which betrays his lack of seriousness.
@ClarkeMicah@MSchreckenstein You might think a reactionary like PH would honour an organisation which has stuck to its dogma for 2 millennia but PH is pretty much a Paisleyite when it comes to the Great Satan
@ClarkeMicah@ThingsHidden2 PH in danger of pulling the rug from under the entire religious edifice. If the Catholic Church, from which all Christian churches spring, is a ‘human organisation’ rather than one authorised by God, then so must the religion it propagates be a human invention
@GuffyNicola When he asserted that his belief in God was just that, I assumed he meant a deep faith which excluded any other belief in any other God. It appears though that he meant nothing more than a preference for a deity which matched his views.
@ClarkeMicah@shineonlovely Obedience to papal authority is a fundamental requirement of the Catholic Church and excommunication the penalty for disobedience. It’s hard to see what more Henry or the Pope could have done to persuade PH that Henry was no longer a Catholic
@GuffyNicola@DebRoberts22249@GarrickKingston Judging the comprehension failures here, it’s not surprising that PH manages to gull so many. Would any of them on meeting a recently released criminal ignore their conviction on the grounds that it was an opinion or would they simply take it as an objective fact?
@ClarkeMicah@William_Laing Obedience to papal authority is only political to non-catholics. It’s the difference between regarding Christ as as a revolutionary figure and believing him to be the son of God
@CharlieWalsham_ I followed you because you claimed to oppose this binary nonsense. Cadwalladr is an investigative journalist, wrong about some things, right about others, human in other words, but still undeserving of this kind of reputational savaging.
