Three Americans. 67 visa workers. Plus another 50 workers offshore in India.

Everyone keeps citing H-1B as a tiny percentage of the entire American workforce. But how concentrated are H-1B, OPT and other visa workers inside individual technology occupations, departments and teams?

That is the number I’d like to see.

🚨 BREAKING: THIS IS HUGE. THE WHITE HOUSE JUST PUT AMERICAN LAYOFFS DIRECTLY INTO THE H-1B REVIEW PROCESS.

President Trump signed a new executive order TODAY.

Federal agencies are now directed to consider whether an H-1B sponsoring employer:

Laid off similarly situated American workers during the previous year

OR

Plans to lay them off in the future.

And there’s more.

The Labor Department has 30 DAYS to begin reviewing previously submitted H-1B Labor Condition Applications to determine whether action against sponsoring employers is warranted.

Think about the implications.

A company lays off thousands of American tech workers.

Then turns around and says it needs H-1B workers.

The government is now explicitly being told:

LOOK AT THE LAYOFFS.

This is exactly the question companies should have been forced to answer all along.

John Cornyn is still pushing the U.S. India relationship after losing because that was never a PAC-for-votes sideline for him, it is a 22-year institutional project he built.

He co-founded the Senate India Caucus with Hillary Clinton in 2004, still co-chairs it with Mark Warner, and treated India as a China-balancing, defense-trade, and energy partner long before H-1B became a Texas primary weapon. He is counting on still being a big lobbyist for India interests after he leaves.

Ken Paxton beat him 64–36 in the May 26, 2026 runoff after Trump endorsed Paxton and the race turned, in part, on visas and “Dallas looks like Delhi.” Cornyn stays in office until January 3, 2027. Two weeks after conceding he was back on the record congratulating Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected prime minister and saying the U.S.–India partnership “has never been stronger.”

He does not need primary voters anymore, so he is doing what lame-duck committee members do: keep the file he owns. Finance, Foreign Relations, and Intelligence still sit on his desk; Texas energy and defense firms still sell into India; and walking away from a caucus he created would look like surrender to the attack that helped end his career, not a policy change.

He is a big reason TX looks like India and he opened the cash register for himself and Abbott to sell out Texas.
