"For six weeks, nobody looked at me. Pakistani journalists did not look. Indian journalists, who look at Nur Khan as a hobby, did not look. The Central Intelligence Agency, with its constellation of overhead reconnaissance assets and its annual budget of fifteen billion dollars, did not look."
What this means is that essentially, out of every Rs 1 that FBR collects, 57.5 paisas go directly to the provinces. The federal government runs on what remains: 42.5 paisas.
From that 42.5 paisas, Pakistan funds its entire defence budget, all federal pensions, and all federal development spending (Sankey chart attached).
And if provinces collect more than expected in any given year,
that money stays with the provinces.
What this means for federal finances:
For a 10% rise in defence → FBR must grow 4.2%
For a 10% rise in PSDP → FBR must grow 1.7%
For a 10% rise in pensions → FBR must grow 1.8%
For all three together → FBR must grow 7.7% in a single year
Is this a structure that still fits Pakistan’s fiscal reality?
Let’s first understand what it is. 🧵

For decades, Pakistan has been subjected to a sustained narrative assault by India, carefully constructed, persistently amplified, and globally circulated. What we are witnessing now is not a sudden transformation, but a long-overdue correction. As the fog begins to lift, the world is starting to see Pakistan beyond the distortions: a state that has consistently signaled restraint, a society that seeks stability, and a nation that wants nothing more than to live in peace within a difficult neighborhood.
What I find perhaps most striking is not just the external shift in perception, but the internal one. Pakistanis themselves are beginning to rediscover their own country, beyond imposed narratives, beyond strategic caricatures. And in that rediscovery lies something deeper: a quiet, steady reclaiming of identity which is less about reacting to others, and more about understanding ourselves on our own terms. As we proceed to *Islamabad Talks*, I wish to extend our deepest and sincere gratitude to our brotherly countries People’s Republic of China, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Türkiye, Arab Republic of Egypt and State of Qatar for extending invaluable and all out support towards reaching the ceasefire and giving peaceful diplomatic efforts a chance to seek a comprehensive and conclusive end to the conflict.
I would also like to deeply appreciate and thank our brotherly countries of Gulf Cooperation Council, whose consistent support and commitment to peace and stability in the region remains quintessential for our efforts.
The leadership of all our brotherly countries and United States of America demonstrated exceptional strategic foresight, sagacity and patience in giving peace a chance.
I also thank all our partners and friends across the globe who have reached out and acknowledged Pakistan’s sincere efforts for the global peace.
Let us all work together to forge a lasting peace in the region and beyond!
With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.
Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability. We earnestly hope, that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days!

Pakistan, once isolated by Washington for harboring Osama bin Laden, is assuming a surprisingly prominent position in the multinational effort to push the U.S. and Iran toward the negotiating table https://t.co/rHZAb3nKkl
Pakistan. Turkey. Egypt. Saudi Arabia.
Three chokepoints, one nuclear power, $3.6 trillion in combined GDP, 500m in population, and the most consequential diplomatic grouping of the decade. A deep dive into each member and what this bloc means for the region's future.

AoA sir ! Keep your cars in the shade in Islamabad on the 28th, and especially on the 29th of March, as a hailstorm is expected. A friend of mine, who specializes in atmospheric physics, weather patterns, and geospatial prediction, shared this with me. He has developed a model that predicts weather with high precision.

In one line, how do you rate the bowling of Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan? Do you think they were responsible for the team’s loss, or were there other key factors? Share your honest opinion.
