Today, January 14, marks the celebration of Thai Pongal, a Tamil harvest festival. Overflowing rice, or pongal, symbolizes abundance and prosperity. This harvest festival, akin to Canadian Thanksgiving, gives thanks to the sun and other natural elements for a good harvest. @tdsb
Bharatha Natyam is a Tamil classical dance-drama in which the language of hand gestures and body movements is used to convey meaning and expression. This ancient dance form stems back to a period when dances were performed in great temples. #THM@tdsb
Did you know that the Dravidian language family consists of the four major literary languages of Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu? These languages are linked and branched off at different periods of time, with Malayalam having the closest link to Tamil. #THM@tdsb
