Woman elopes with her lover, leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Her husband and the matchmaker who arranged the marriage are no longer alive.

On January 23, Saraswati left her matrimonial home in Davangere, Karnataka, telling her husband she was going to the temple. She never returned. Instead, she eloped with her lover Shivakumar, a relationship she allegedly continued even after marriage.

The marriage was barely two months old.

Her husband, unable to bear the shock of betrayal, public humiliation, and emotional collapse, died by suicide. The tragedy did not stop there. The matchmaker, who had arranged the marriage and was facing social pressure and guilt after the elopement, also ended his life.
