I believe that at the end of the day, when we are exposed to different things on social media, movies, music, it comes down to perspective and how we CHOOSE to see things. #Lesson13#EDUC307
I think that parents need to be a bit more aware these days to what they are exposing their kids to. This can be detrimental to children's upbringing in terms of them shaping their social views about the world. #Lesson11#EDUC307
Does anyone else still believe in the stereotypes that Disney has displayed looking back now that we all have more knowledge about the topic? #Lesson11#EDUC307
As a kid I never realized that Disney was portraying so many stereotypes from their characters. For example, women being seductive to get what they need and men always coming in to save the day. #Lesson11#EDUC307
So true and sad at the same time. Because in a way I feel that young girls being exposed to this will actually believe that this is the approach they need to take in order to get what they want. #Lesson11
One of the gender representations that stood out to me was that women were seen using their body in order to manipulate people in getting what they want. For instance, ariel giving up her voice to be able to get the body she wants. #Lesson11
Pretty much this is what they have exposed us to at a young age and subconsciously believing that this is the way life works. Not to mention that everything is fairy-tale. #Lesson11#EDUC307
Messages Disney sent/sends to kids:
-Men do all the work to save the day
-Women must use their good looks to get what they want(Ariel)
-Arabs are stealers and criminals(Aladdin)
-Indians live in Tipis and paint their faces
- etc.
Racial stereotypes & gender inequality

Very true a lot of men and women forget the true meaning of feminism. They forget that its about fighting for every genders rights, so that everyone can have equal opportunities in life. #Lesson10#EDUC307
So true! Its insane now a days to have a formulated opinion of what you believe in. You must comply to what society thinks is acceptable from there point of view. Sadly as each year goes by, people need to be more cautious about how they express themselves. #EDUC307
In conclusion to all of your wonderful responses to my tweet about Disney`s influence, I think the reason why this is even a topic of debate is due to the fact that our society has progressed to be increasingly politically correct.
I think men have more freedom on social media, genrally speaking. They donโt get shamed for the things they post as often as women do. #Educ307#lesson10
So true, in fact every time we tend to re watch these movies we pick up so many cliches that we didn't recognize when we were younger and roll our eyes realizing how stereotypical Disney can be! #Lesson11#EDUC307
True what most people, men AND women forget is that feminism is also fighting for men's rights from a certain point of view, because it brings more awareness that everybody should be given equal opportunities in life despite their gender and identity. #Lesson10#EDUC307
Its sad that they use cartoons to portray such strong stereotypes that shape a child's mind into believing that it is all a normal way of living and being. I myself never gave it a second thought as a kid. #Lesson11#EDUC307
Agreed. Also with all the studies that reveal how children should not have screen time until older considering the negative effects it has on their brains. There's many consequences with the rise of technology. #EDUC307
I know that this is where the world is going, but I really wish my kids could have a tech free environment in elementary school. Elementary school was so pure, organic, and just special the way I experienced it. I would love for them to be able to learn how I learnt.
