@jscottshipman@USN_Submariner Add up the PLAN’s smaller and less capable conventional subs and they still have less subs than the USN. Unlike the absolute mess that is the surface fleet, the USN doesn’t fuck around regarding their submarines.
@jscottshipman@USN_Submariner The PLAN only has around 9-10 SSNs to the US’s 51, 0 SSGNs to the US’s 4, and only 6 SSBNs to the US’s 14. And all of them are half the size of their American counterparts. And in terms of construction of nuclear submarines it’s pretty much equal. So where are we behind exactly?
@Goxut@lividwx That’s the Southern Lights lol. (Earth is upside down in the image)
Northern Lights are visible on the bottom left side of the image though.
@squidddad@radioactivered While plants can easily store all of the waste it produces over their lifetime more permanent storage options, for example burying the fuel deep underground, are being developed. Also spent fuel can be recycled for use in smaller reactors.
@squidddad@radioactivered Spent nuclear fuel takes up very little space and is stored in either nearly indestructible dry casks or in cooling ponds. In the case of the above ground casks you can touch them and not get radiation. Image shows 20 years worth of spent fuel in a small parking lot sized space.
