Wasn’t just Dahomey, though in spite of Netflix, those Dahomey warriors were ruthless killers and not abolitionists. (Their training included beheading ties up prisoners to desensitize them to killings).

There was equal slave trades going in the opposite direction for the Indian Ocean and Trans Saharan that were more brutal and deadlier.

Slavery was a horrible institution but ironically the US was the place where their survival rate was much higher . Unlike other colonies many slave owners encouraged families to procreate .Unlike the other new world colonies where most died in 7-10 years. Or unlike the males who went to India, Madagascar, or the Middle East who were primitively castrated in a process that had a 80-90% fatality rate and the women were forced into prostitution in harems. That was after surviving a march to slave markets that had an 80% death rate.

Be thankful your ancestors were sent to what became the United States. If your ancestors were shipped to the Trans-Saharan or Indian Ocean slave trades. The males were castrated in a process called “shaving” where their penises and testicles were removed. A reed was shoved in the opening so the urethra wouldn’t close, and it had about a 10% survival rate.

No whites or Europeans involved.

In the US, they stopped importing slaves in 1808.

Roughly 600,000 slaves were shipped to what has become the US. The conditions were so much better in the US , the population GREW to 4 million.

EVERY OTHER SLAVE COLONY had net growth with life expectancies to be 7-10 years.

If you were given an option of Trans Saharan or Indian Ocean slave trades or anywhere but the US in the Trans Atlantic trade, you would have volunteered to row the boats to the US colonies or during the first 30 years. The United States had slavery for less than 100 years and only allowed the import of slaves for 30 years.

Slavery lasted in the US for less than 100 years, ending roughly 1863

Africa slavery existed for all recorded history and over 3000 years and finally had the last slave trading country, Mauritania agreed to stop official slavery in 1981, though they still have chattel slave markets today.

If your ancestors were slaves, the persons who captured and enslaved them were Black Africans. Period.

Be thankful that white Christian males fought battles to stop Africans from continuing to enslave people. More facts!

THE US had nothing to do with the slave trade in the Caribbean. Those were European colonies.

What needs to also be included is the entire continent of Africa. Fact nearly every single slave of African descent outside of Africa was a slave in Africa first.

Nearly every single one. Do a simple search. Europeans purchased slaves from Africans.

Africans were the HENRY FORD’s of slavery. They exported slaves from the year 800 AD. Every slave out of Africa was either captured in war or raids by African tribes; sold as a repayment of family debt (you could even sell nieces and nephews) or were placed as punishment for crimes. Period.

Europeans didn’t invent slavery. But they did end it.

Slavery dominated Africa for all recorded millennia. If reparations are owed then Africa must be in the conversation.

Blaming slave owners only is like blaming the drug users but ignoring the manufacturers and dealers, and then claiming we owe the dealers and manufacturers money because the drug users were using drugs.

Also, people of African descent owned slaves in the US

Did you know early every single slave of African descent….nearly every single person… was a slave in Africa prior to being sold? Blacks have been committing crimes against other blacks for all millennia.
