It is the battlefield that determines the rules of engagement. Which is why there are no wars more terrible than those waged in a traveling circus or a library.
@NMamatas In a bar witnessing Monday Night Raw for the first time in years, and my knee-deep in weird research ass just realized that Alfred Jarry would have adored writing this spectacle.
@ZZClaybourne@jeffreyford8 These books are so good I own them physically AND talked a local indie bookstore into ordering copies. A perfect convergence of ‘30s pulp excess, ‘60s comics madness, ‘70s exploitation films, and universal joy. Read them!
@kingshotpress finished “Gravity” by Michael Kazepis today. A brilliant collection of writing around the mass of that which is missing or lost; circling the inexorable pull of ideas and emotions whose orbit we cannot break. Lovely work.
@flglmn I really enjoyed its word play, and dedication to sticking to the conventions of the drag patois, but it is essentially a distillation of everything they have been writing about for the last thirty years. You can see references to all of their previous comics work.
@jessnevins hey, before you get off this hellsite, I just finished “The Dictionary of Snow Hill” abs it was an absolute delight. Thank you so much. It receives my highest kind of praise: it inspires me to write more.
@LairdBarron I’m still all in… if not more so. But then, those were my old stomping grounds (by which I mean trudging through upstate and western NY snow, shivering in my boots and beginning to wonder if I’d maybe hallucinated that deer I was pretty sure I’d tagged…)
@JoshMorrow Appeasement is, historically, a poor choice for thwarting fascism. Conveniently, my current blood pressure is gonna drop me dead while giving a kicking to some half-wit “real American” on the street any day now…
@catvalente My absolute favorite story by you. And the one I send to my rust belt, midwestern, reservation adjacent relatives every single autumn to remind them that you can be both literate AND understand football culture. A masterpiece of several American experiences.
@JoshMorrow Well, I’m a monstrous piece of shit that wants to burn everything to the fucking ground. Fuck peace, fuck middle grounds. If you can’t be as clever and functional as me you don’t deserve shite. Also: happy new year you magnificent bastard.
There is only one Clown - it simply peers out from many, many faces. There is only one Mime - it simply sees into and moves through imperceptible realms of strangeness and terror.
