OSSOFF: If you’re late with your rent, the machinery of late fees and eviction is very efficient. But when you tell your landlord about the black mold in your daughter’s bedroom, nobody comes for four months. And then, when you’ve got to take her to the hospital for her asthma attack, you get a $3,000 bill for the ambulance.
Life was already hard enough before Donald Trump lied us into war, before his tariffs made everything more expensive, and before he doubled your health insurance premiums and slashed Medicaid.
It costs more today than ever before in American history to fill up your truck, to stock your fridge, to power your home, to go to the doctor.
Meanwhile, and you’ve seen it, the president and the first family line their pockets to the tune of billions of dollars.
The time has come to wield the power granted to us by our Constitution and rebuke this obscenity.
Elon Musk would have been subpoenaed by Congress last year but Ro Khanna intentionally missed a surprise committee vote on it—
A few months prior to that Ro went on CNN to whine that the Biden admin was’t nicer to Musk, blaming it for Musk being a fascist. 🤷♀️
In retrospect it was a massive blunder for these billionaires to be doing media appearances and trying to be influencers. Now we don’t have to use vague words like “the 1%”, we can just say their names
I understand Hasan taking a shot at me. A few weeks ago I wrote a really critical piece about him. In it, I said that while he was likable and had plenty of normal lefty views, I also thought his track record of quotes, actions, and behavior made it clear he wasn’t a good guy and held some really outrageous views, too.
This tweet is kind of indicative.
I went on Fox News and did an interview about him after my piece. It was largely positive, actually: I explained that many of his views were popular with MAGA and he’d be more influential if Ds did well in the midterms. Fox used those quotes in a video about him, which I was kind of surprised about.
Then last week, I tweeted about how Islamophobia around AES was rampant in the GOP right now. So Hasan responded by… claiming I participate in fomenting Islamophobia? For doing a Fox News interview where I said nice things about him, and for tweeting about Islamophobia being really bad right now?
The left has always been bad at winning friends and this is a tidy example why. I’ve offered (twice) via email to bring Hasan on my show and happy to go to his turf. I’d genuinely be curious to hear how he defends some of the stuff I wrote about in my piece on him, and happy to defend what I wrote. But posts like this pretty weak.
Talarico: Texas is beautiful, Texas is bold, and most importantly, Texas is big. Big hair, big hearts, and big dreams. Our musicians are so iconic, they only need one name: Willie, Selena, Beyonce
I am a husband, father, and lifelong Texan. I’ve been a Christian since I was 5 and a pastor since I was 19.
And I just proudly voted for James Talarico, Gina Hinojosa, Jon Rosenthal, and Vikki Goodwin.
While it’s true that Ken Paxton is as corrupt and morally bankrupt as they come, Greg Abbott has decimated our public schools, Dan Patrick is bought and paid for by right-wing billionaires, and Bo French wears his racism on his sleeve, I didn’t just vote AGAINST candidates I know will do a bad job. I had the privilege of voting FOR candidates who will do a great job!
I originally connected with Jimmy Talarico many years ago (long before he got famous) and we became friends shortly after. He’s the exact same guy in private as he is in public—kindhearted, whip smart, hardworking, and very serious about following Jesus’ call to care for all people, especially the most vulnerable. That’s who he’s been in ministry, in the Texas Legislature, and I have no doubt that’s who he’ll be as a United States Senator too.
I’ve also gotten to speak with Gina Hinojosa, Jon Rosenthal, and Vikki Goodwin this year. I believe they will fight for two things that are very important to my family and so many people in our church community:
1. An economy where every Texan can afford to have their basic needs met.
2. Fully funded public schools where all children can thrive.
I’m not telling you who to vote for; I’m just telling you who I chose to vote for and why.
We are in a critical moment in both the United States and Texas, so I hope you vote. And if you are a follower of Jesus, I hope you see your vote as a way to prioritize the way of Jesus—sacrificial love of neighbor and justice for those who have been marginalized.
Talarico: Ken Paxton is not one of us. He's not even from here. He moved here from California. Why is it always the Californians who are saying don't California my Texas?
Ossoff: Every day our wave grows taller and our tent grows bigger. Because this isn't just a campaign for Democrats. Folks come up to me at airports or on the street. They tell me they're lifelong Republicans, but this year they're voting for Democrats for the first time.
Down in Valdosta, the mayor's named Scott James Matheson, a lifelong conservative Republican. We expanded Valdosta's transit system together. We upgraded Moody Air Force Base together. When Hurricane Helene hit, I called him up in the middle of the night to check on the city, and when the storm cleared, I was there alongside him to help, going block by block. We served hot meals to folks who had just lost their homes.
When I got back to Washington, I delivered federal disaster relief for South Georgia, and now I'm honored to have conservative Republican Mayor Matheson's support in this reelection campaign.
