@Kwakubrezier@elizanane You know, sometimes, I'll read poets as mentors and try to write poems using their poems as epigraphs to give myself practice, and Warsan Shire comes to mind given what you're saying--as someone to read and draw upon as familiar.
@rebleighauthor Wow, congrats! You know, I think you just added a new level....there's form rejection, rejection with feedback, and now, rejection with referral, but that is so kind. Good luck!
@Kwakubrezier@elizanane Is there something specific you're looking to learn - style, form, multi-genre? Inspiration is a great place to start, for sure, puts words on the page, but it's good to be thinking beyond that so you don't dry out when there isn't inspiration!
@MadelynKnecht I feel so seen. So many people have nudged me to self publish or indie publish, but it's so important to me to get the books I write into the schools I once taught in, and traditional publishing gets there because of purchasing and library pathways. It can get hard.
@KristaVanDolzer On the flip side, querying writers love 'em! I work in a non-publishing field, so it gives me a minute to gather my thoughts. I'm so excited you're on submission!
@Kestrel_Bates I've also noticed that some agencies indicate (QueryTracker status notwithstanding) that a pass from one agent at the agency is a pass from all agents given the collaborative nature of their review process; I'd be cognizant of that.
@MLA_Matthew I am so sorry to hear this. I don't think I've ever queried you, but as someone who is new to the industry and doesn't have mentors, I rely on good feedback on rejection and appreciate that you give it. Your encouragement to #amquerying folks means a lot!
@ahall_research Wanted to reach out about this, but I’m also in the same boat of not being able to message you! There’s no musical repeat sign for me to use.
