Someone should write dystopian fiction based on the Lebanon economic crisis. Evil bankers, corrupt politicians, smart economists as heroes, underground networks, young people fighting to revive a country and an economy, save it from the old guard. The plot writes itself.
8:40 pm is too late in the night to be taking my bra off. People need to figure out how not to cram all the meetings and events in the last two weeks of the semester.
Hello @NetflixIndia@annamalai_k
I’m an Indian Hindu woman disturbed by the movie Animal which shows an Indian man having affairs outside marriage. Cultural heritage what makes India & this movie disturbs the “one man one wife” concept of this country. Plz take action.
One of the reasons I am still proud to be an Indian is because we are secular and socialist. These attributes, like our democracy, may be flawed, but at least we have held on to them so far. Without our diversity, what is even our identity as an Indian?
The official Indian govt handle is now sharing the old preamble without the words ‘secular’ & ‘socialist’ on #RepublicDay.
Now it won’t be long before they bring a new amendment in Parliament to remove these words officially.
Everybody loves a good story, don’t let data spoil it
Real GDP growth during 2023-24 is expected to be at 7.3%, which is pretty good. But private consumption expenditure, which forms about 60% of the GDP, is expected to grow only 4.4%.
Other than the pandemic year of 2020-21, when private consumption contracted by 5.2%, this is the slowest growth since 2002-3, when it had grown 2.9%.
There has barely been a mention of consumption growing at its slowest pace in 21 years.
As India marches toward becoming a $30 trillion, $40 trillion, $60 trillion economy, the stock market rises higher and higher, and real estate prices go way beyond what even the middle class can afford, people aren’t really interested in the devil in detail.
It hampers the stories that they are being told and the stories that, in turn, they are telling themselves. Everybody loves a good story, nobody wants data to spoil it.

Welcome to my home!
Yes, random piles are everywhere because they look nicer than having everything strewn about.
Yes, I could easily find something from any of the piles.
Yes, I could've put stuff away nicely, but that requires more executive functioning than I have available.
Just now, @ranjithoskote was driven to resign from his distinguished role at #Documenta, for reasons involving the word #antisemitism. The real story is ... just so perverse and bizarre, and it's worth going over. A thread.
