Worker Check.
You tell yourself you are not a worker. Let us test that.
Imagine you only had to work 4 hours a day to cover your rent, bills, groceries, and still keep your current lifestyle. The other 4 hours? Yours. For family, hobbies, rest - whatever actually matters.
Could you make that work? Not under capitalism. Because your paycheck is not a reward for a full day's effort. It's just enough to keep you coming back tomorrow.
Those first few hours? They cover your actual cost of living.
The rest of your shift? You are generating value that never makes it back to you. Building margins. Funding bonuses. Creating wealth that stays with the people who own the business.
It doesn't matter if you wear a blazer, answer Slack messages from home, or "manage" a team or "own" a product or "hold" some ESOPs. If you don't own the company, you are selling your time to stay afloat. And the split between what you keep and what they take is not natural - it is enforced.
You are not a "professional". You are a worker who has been sold a different title.
If you don't sign the paychecks, realise this: your real cost of survival is covered in a fraction of your day. The rest isn't your salary. It's theirs.
The question was never whether you work 4 or 8 hours. It's who gets to draw the line.
And that's a line we shall redraw together. ✊🏾
May Day greetings, comrades. Join the vanguard.
