โ โ He's made himself a small campfire, deciding to stay awake for another hour before putting it out and heading to sleep, in a tree, of course. He couldn't risk anything happening.
as possible, Doctor West, so I'm going tโdecline your offer. `` He'd just need to be more careful on his travels, especially in dangerous areas.
โ โ `` If ye could fix me up โn send me on my merry way, I'd quite appreciate it. ``
โ โ Though, Daniel couldn't care less about how โkindโ Herbert acted towards him, he knew none of it was real.
He appears to think for a minute or so, perhaps due to the concussion or he really was considering it...
โ โ `` I... would prefer to keep mโtime here as short โ
your brain is bleeding.โ He has an obvious lack of bedside manner in the way he says this all so matter-of-factly. It raises the question if heโs like this with all of his patients. At least thereโs the decency to warn Daniel on what the scan is like.
He blinks a few times once Herbert is done with the light, making a thoughtful sound. That... wasn't a good thing; he knew little about medicine, but he knew enough.
โ โ `` I've had a few in the past, most likely. I wouldnโ be surprised. `` So a yes, then.
โYour pupils show a delayed reaction to light, and theyโre different sizes,โ Herbert says as he notes his latest findings down. He doesnโt seem all that concerned. Then he turns to Daniel.
โHave you had a concussion before? Or other history of head injury?โ
his pupils slightly different sizes. A common indication of a concussion, which Daniel already assumed he had. This was going to give him a headache....
A hum as Herbert recounted the results, a little annoyed of how... judgemental he sounded. But again, he needed to trust Herbertโs capabilities.
โ โ `` Alright. `` He says beforehand on cue.
Danielโs eyes had a slow reaction to the sudden bright light, โ
now.โ Next is the ophthalmoscope, which Herbert looks through and shines a light to each of Danielโs pupils. This was arguably a very important part of a preliminary exam, and he already knew what heโd find in the case of a concussion.
Daniel kept his gaze fixated on Herbert and what he did. His heart and lungs were relatively fine aside from his heartbeat being faster, most likely the anxiety.
โ โ No matter the age, there were plenty that didn't like the doctors for whatever reason. It was normal.
โ
sighs,โ โ `` Just tell me what yer doing as ye do it. ``
Daniel didn't want to spend more time inside and in a hospital than necessary, it made him anxious. And he hated every second of this.
Daniel meanwhile can very well feel the doctorโs eyes on himself. If Herbert were to ask about them, he'd be sure to lie; he wouldn't believe Daniel anyhow even if he did disclose the information.
โ โ `` You... can do whatever you need to, Doctor West. `` He โ
โ โ . . .
Daniel used this time to very quickly slip on his boots, then began to leave. He had no... friends in Leerie now, he needed to be careful, more so than before.
He felt beyond guilty... this is why he doesn't make friends on the road.
`` ..... you clearly don't know *anything* about me `` , his voice sounded so calm all of a sudden, a slight strain to his voice...
Elijah backed away to his apartment and shut the door behind himself.
He didn't want to end it like this... but he had to get the job done.
โ โ `` .....Ye chose to live here, Elijah, ye chose to get involved in whatever is going on โere. I'd say leave, but I don't think ye would. ``
Obviously, he's jumping to conclusions, but they're valid ones.
โ โ `` I care about ye. I can keep ye more safe if โ
`` ...... what if it was my life that was in danger here? How could you possibly protect me if you won't even leave? ``
Another tear fell to the floor as he stepped back. His arms were now crossed.
โ โ `` .....No, ye need to listen to me, Elijah. `` He takes a step back, and as guilty as he feels, Daniel is not backing down this time.
โ โ `` I can take care of mโself, and yeโd be surprised what I'd actually understand. I ain't abandoning Leerie. ``
`` Daniel, stop being so stubborn for a moment and just listen to me. There's no reason that I could possibly give you that would make sense... you need to leave. Please, I'm begging you ``
He stepped closer again, the panic in his eyes clear now.
