Don’t forget the state lottery and the taxes we pay on other shit. 💩. The bait-and-switch tactics in public finance. Florida Lottery was launched in 1988, it was sold to the public as a way to “enhance public education funding.” But here’s the trick:
Lottery money didn’t replace taxes—it supplemented them. Over time, state lawmakers reduced the amount of general revenue funding going to education because the lottery was filling the gap.
Net result: Schools didn’t end up with a huge windfall, they just saw a budget shuffle. We were sold two conflicting ideas: “Buy lottery tickets to help schools” (moral justification for a regressive revenue stream). “Pay ever-rising property taxes to help schools” (to cover underfunded basic needs). Both were true. And neither was honest.
Historically, the gasoline tax was sold as a “user fee”, you use the roads, you pay for them through fuel. In Florida: State Fuel Tax: ~19 cents/gallon (plus federal 18.4 cents). Local Option Fuel Taxes: Up to 12 cents more per gallon. This is Managed by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Originally, this was exclusively used for roads, bridges, and transportation infrastructure. So even though gas taxes still exist, politicians now say “we need more property or sales tax to fix the roads”, even though you’re already paying for roads at the pump. Many cities also impose sales taxes specifically for transportation, which is supposed to be used for things like buses, light rail, bike lanes, and road improvements.
That’s the con: Florida lottery (originally meant for education), Gas taxes (originally meant for roads) are no longer enough or are misused. Sales taxes get added for transit. Property taxes are then justified “for infrastructure”, and then you still drive over potholes, you still have to buy classroom supplies for your kids, good teachers still remain underpaid and we still don’t have enough first responders. 🤨
It’s not a lack of money, its a lack of transparency (whats our money really being spent on), no oversight, and decades of wasteful spending.
Same here in Florida “Tangible Personal Property
Tax”. These taxes on business equipment are essentially a tax on productivity. You buy a machine, pay sales tax, then get taxed yearly for owning and using it. This penalizes investment in physical capital and disproportionately impacts small and medium-sized businesses.
@ningenito78@ReOpenChris@partytish Nothings free, but the taxpayer is not a piggy bank. Don’t be pissed off st the guy who wants to save you money, be pissed off at the people who squander it by giving it away.
I like Desantis, way of explaining things. BUT since your at it get rid of Tangible Personal Property Taxes on business. It’s the biggest scam ever, we have to pay a yearly tax on the things we own in our business, or the tools we need to run our business. Even though we paid sales tax when we bought it. That is forever bullshit!
“Tangible personal property is anything your business owns that is movable. This property can include office furniture and supplies, machinery, tools, and vehicles. Like real property, tangible personal property tax is assessed based on the presumed value of the assets.”
These videos are not realistic. First regular people can’t afford a million dollar home. These videos remind me of those DIY shows when the couples are asked what they do for a living and he’s like I “work from home” and she’s like “oh I’m a professional pencil sharpener” and our budget is 1.2 million. 😝 Seriously people just move. California real estate is crazy
They aren’t really against any of it. They are just against anything Trump says or does. Even if it was previously their idea, “like tarrifs, or China or immigration, or healthy foods”. They hate Trump and conservatives so much they will pick the opposite of any argument. It is what it is at this point.
@JedediahBila Bingo, Set realistic expectations from the beginning. Social media has people thinking a 3 Michelin star restaurant on the first date is normal. 😝
@Codie_Sanchez This is not a money problem, this is poor decisions problem. Who buys a 1.2+ million dollar home for their first house? This post is bs and not realistic for 90% of the USA. Bottom line “house-rich and cash poor” couple.
We love Kash and Dan, BUT nothing will change until they prosecute the people in charge who created this mess. Otherwise, “everything goes back to shit once another administration is in place, they will just reverse every law, every executive order and turn the money laundering machine back on. The time is now. Tomorrow will be too late.
Exactly, people will say anything to get elected. Getting your house in order means “family first”. In this case “Americans first” take care of our homeless , veterans and seniors. It’s obvious the government had the money to do it because they were doing it for other countries and immigrants.
“Cousin Google” says: “Yes, in all 50 states, you'll need to provide proof of identity, which can include a photo ID like a driver's license or state ID, or other documents like a birth certificate, to apply for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (food stamps)”
“Yes, in general, you will likely need to provide picture identification, such as a driver's license or state-issued ID, for all household members aged 18 and older when applying for Section 8 housing in all 50 states.”
“Yes, in all 50 states, a government-issued photo ID (like a driver's license, state ID, or passport) is generally required to apply for Medicaid, TANF, and unemployment benefits, as these programs require proof of identity and residency.”
It’s a requirement for food stamps and section 8, Medicaid, TANF and unemployment. That right there debunks the whole “they don’t have access to an ID.” When according to Google every one of these programs, requires the applicant to have an id in order to apply. So how are they able to clear the ID hurdle for the program. But then politicians say they don’t have access to ID for voting. Just saying, “make it make sense.”
@Mylovanov So let me get this straight you are mad because we raised tariffs close to what you’re charging us. Not more than your charging us, not exactly what your charging us, but close to what your charging us? That’s bad for your economy, what about ours?
@DerrickEvans4WV Yes, BUT think of the corruption and the stonewalling she is facing within her own department and others. I TRUST Pam and Kash, we just need to give them time to find all of it, and those people involved in the cover up to put criminal cases together. She’s gonna be awesome.
