Alrighty!! It’s #iRestore month. Join me in introducing yourselves all you restoration folk.
My Evidence-based Restoration Lab seeks to understand how we can best restore ecosystems and conserve species. We do this in prairies and on oceanic islands.
#iRestore month starts today with "Who am I?" We are the Restoration Ecology section of @ESA_org. We organize awards and events at the ESA annual meeting and promote the science and practice of restoration ecology
@FlyAirNZ I did. Also, in a chat with a service manager, I'm being told I can pay to upgrade to the cabin I was downgraded from on the return leg, and fill out a form in hopes to be compensated for paying to upgrade to the cabin I already paid to be in but was downgraded from. Baffling.
Wow @FlyAirNZ with some abysmal customer service. A leg of a flight I paid over $1k extra to fly premium economy had a change of aircraft so they put me in economy.
This is the first week I compromised my principles on posting true weekly facts on the whiteboard on my office door. As a proud @NIUlive faculty member, I felt it was my duty. @NIU_Football#upset#NIUFootball

Hey #ESA2024! Come see our session today at 10-11:30 in 101A.
Integrating Across the Academic-Practitioner Divide: Supporting Basic and Applied Ecology Researchers Across Their Careers at Nachusa Grasslands
I thought I was going to spend Monday writing a Gordon Conference proposal for a fun Restoration project I'm working on with @mlungele, @prof_smurph, and @JMBecologist. But after reading the experience below, we've decided not to support or attend GRCs anymore.
Do any #DBER or #SABER folks have a successful NSF Innovations in Graduate Education proposal you might be willing to share? A group of us in my department are writing one trying to reduce sexual harassment in STEM and would love to see what a successful one looks like. TIA!
📢 We've updated our #Aims & #Scope!
ESE articles should now make it *extra* clear the ecological #problems & #solutions, whatever stage of the project they're reporting at.

I am really honored to have received two of our highest honors at NIU this spring. It has been a pleasure mentoring younger faculty like @jenniferahkoop and @PallaviSingh11! And the many graduate students who were the engines of the research program for which I was awarded.
🎉 Congrats to NIU Biological Sciences Professor @DocHPJones on being named a 2024 NIU Presidential Research, Scholarship & Artistry Professor and on winning the Exemplary Faculty Mentorship Award. #HuskiePride

❌ Learning from failure: an EU-funded project tried to eradicate #invasive red swamp #crayfish by mechanically excavating stream beds. Unfortunately, it failed but lessons can be learnt from this failure – find out more:

The collective centers BIPOC perspectives, and is a place for members to discuss, support, and collaborate on topics in plant restoration, such as agriculture and sustainability. Dr. Foxx serves as a board member of BERC along with a diverse team of plant scholars.
BERC recognizes that the lack of collaboration and diversity in plant restoration practice, agricultural practice, and academics means valuable knowledge and skills are excluded and the needs of BIPOC community members are often overlooked and unmet.
The goal of BERC is to uplift BIPOC scholars & diverse forms of plant knowledge, including from cultural & lived experience. BERC was inspired to do this work because diverse voices are often ignored in plant restoration spaces because of their proximity to labor.
