For too long, suicide in the fire service lived in the shadows.

🚨 LAFD responds to nearly five times the calls today as it did in the 1960s – yet staffing levels have barely changed.
@UFLAC – with backing from the #IAFF – is launching a ballot initiative to fix that & reverse decades of underinvestment in the LAFD.

Four-person crews ensure fires are extinguished faster and occupants are rescued more quickly during emergencies.
This is the nationally recognized minimum staffing standard for a reason - it keeps the public and FFs safe.
It’s what Fall River - and all communities - deserve.
After a Fall River, MA, fire that killed 9, the IAFF urges city leaders to meet national staffing standards.
“Had they been staffed properly, there would’ve been 8 more fire fighters making rescues & lives would have been saved,” said @IAFFPresident.

With deep sorrow, the Ventura County Fire Department announces the line of duty death of Engineer Thomas “Tommy” James Daniel Minadeo at the age of 32.
Engineer Minadeo dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community with unwavering commitment, professionalism, and heart. His bravery, dedication, and kindness left an indelible mark on those he worked alongside and the countless lives he touched.
Minadeo joined the Ventura County Fire Department as a fire control worker in 2015. In 2017, he was hired as a firefighter, graduating from Academy 54. He was assigned to Truck 54 in Camarillo, Station 26 in Santa Paula, Station 31 in Thousand Oaks, Station 51 in El Rio, Station 55 in Camarillo and Station 53 in Port Hueneme. Tommy promoted to engineer in 2022 and served his final assignment at Station 45 in Simi Valley.
Minadeo was diagnosed with job-related cancer last October and had been undergoing treatment.
“Tommy was part of our fire family for nearly 10 years, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with us in response to our community’s public safety needs,” Fire Chief Dustin Gardner said. “We now stand with Tommy’s family in grieving his passing and supporting each other.”

In one month, @IAFFofficial members faced some of the toughest calls – a terrorist attack in New Orleans, wildfires in California, and plane crashes in DC and Philly. Each time, they responded with the skill the public counts on and expects from fire fighters and paramedics.
The @IAFFofficial is heartbroken to learn of the loss of our four Union brothers from UA Local 602 in last night’s American Airlines tragedy.
May God hold each of them and all who love them in His eternal embrace.
