Firefighters Rescue Dog After Vehicle Crashes Into Surf Near Malibu
VCFD, Federal Fire Ventura County, CA State Parks Lifeguards, Gold Coast Ambulance, and the CHP responded yesterday to a single-vehicle collision along Highway 1 near Deer Creek Road, north of Malibu.
Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle off the roadway and into the rocks along the shoreline. The driver had self-extricated with one of their dogs, but a second dog remained trapped inside. Firefighters and CA State Parks Lifeguards accessed the vehicle, safely freed the dog, and carried it up to the roadway. Neither dog appeared to be injured.
One patient was taken to a local hospital in stable condition with minor injuries, and the scene was turned over to the CHP.
This incident highlights the teamwork between VCFD and our area partners in responding to dynamic emergencies requiring all of our collective training.
Early yesterday morning, one of our firefighters was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while providing care at a traffic collision on westbound State Route 118 near Tapo Canyon Road in Simi Valley.
The firefighter received immediate care and was transported to a local trauma center. On the evening of September 28, the firefighter was transferred by VCFD personnel to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for continued specialized care and remains in stable condition.
The firefighter’s family and the Ventura County Fire Department appreciate the community’s support and ask that the public respect their privacy during this time.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
