DocYourWorld '22 officially begins today with our first event: a screening of 'Minding the Gap', followed by a discussion with the documentary's director Bing Liu via Zoom @ 4pm!

Following the screening of 'Mind the Gap' on April 19th, a zoom discussion will held at 4:00PM, featuring director Bing Liu.

REMINDER! Student submissions for our showcase are due APRIL 18TH.

Our 'Breaking Barriers' student showcase will be held on APRIL 26TH @ 4PM, 1104 S Wabash Ave 8th floor screening room.

We will be kicking off this year’s ‘DocYourWorld: Overcoming Obstacles’ with a screening of Minding the Gap, an award-winning 2018 documentary, followed by a zoom discussion with director Bing Liu. The discussion will begin on April 19th, at 4:00PM, featuring director Bing Liu.

3/3: What about “fair use?” This is a difficult and murky area of the legal world, so if you want to make a case that you have the right to use copyrighted material, you may do so, but keep it to a minimum, please!

Fine cuts are welcomed, but may only be screened on our website.

2/3: You must be the creator of all material in the film, unless you are using material for which copyright has lapsed or you have gotten permission to use the material. This includes both visuals and music.

Submission Requirements:

Must be a currently enrolled Columbia College Chicago student.

5-10 minute completed short documentary that focuses on people or organizations that work to overcome social and/ or personal barriers.

Student projects shown will be offered critique by alumni, and an awards ceremony will take place on the last day of the festival.

There will be three winners, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and all three are eligible for a prize.

DocYourWorld’s newest series, “Overcoming Obstacles”, is opening with a screening of student documentaries for our 2022 awards. The focus will be on non-fiction film works that are focused on overcoming social and personal barriers.
