This picture came up in my memories today. Years ago, I celebrated earning my doctorate from @USC with a young Jeremiah by my side. Now, I’ve had the blessing of watching that same little boy graduate from @UTAustin Moody Honors Program. Life comes full circle. Legacy matters.
Honored to speak on the national stage at #HOPE2026. Together with student parents, educators, and national leaders, we are building shared strategies to advance education and economic mobility for families nationwide.

Black History Month is a living bridge, not a chapter we close after February. I think about the shoulders we stand on, the courage that cleared classrooms, polling places, and neighborhoods so the rest of us could walk in with our heads high.
My hope is simple and steady. I want my African American and Afro-Hispanic brothers and sisters to live in a Texas where history is told honestly, where opportunity is wider than any zip code, and where our children see themselves reflected in books, leadership, and possibility.
The future I imagine is built in everyday choices: protecting public schools, learning each other’s stories, supporting Black-owned businesses, and showing up for one another with respect and joy. When one community rises, we all breathe easier.
May we keep walking forward together, clear-eyed about the past and fearless about what we can build next.
