@WhySharksMatter I give graduate students first author for anything in their thesis, even if I do most writing. If not in their thesis, I’d say they get second.
@WhySharksMatter I’ve experienced the same. Rebuttal really is the only appropriate choice at this point. It sucks I know but “I reviewed this at anothet journal and rejected it, look at my review!” Just isn’t going to cut it.
@MattPoulter3 @HaneySociology @Meredith_Seeley@Momademia@AcademicChatter Agreed! We can’t champion inclusiveness by throwing people who disagree for good reasons under the bus as “toxic.” While I support kids at conferences, I’d prefer that they not be in the presentation room if possible
@Meredith_Seeley@Momademia@AcademicChatter Not rude IMO but good to bring support if you can. Also good idea to schedule meetings with colleagues to make up for the potential loss of impromptu discussions that might normally occur during socials, etc.
@WhySharksMatter Mm. Sorry but for the perspective of a search committee member, I’d have to say “Nay” but it wouldn’t affect judgement of a good candidate
@RoganAGrant@Elasmo_Gal@errinkw Or that application rates are super high relative to positions. Our REU has about a 4% rate even though it focuses on early-stage students.
