If there is one thing I could bring back into the NHS, it will be proper bedside teaching.
Those teachings where a resident doctor will present by the patient's bedside, demonstrate clinical skills, followed by proper detailed discussions. Every resident can rat out stuffs that we now need to check on BMJ best practice or uptodate. But the sheer volume of work both on the consultant and residents side is a big barrier to this.

Residents these days are being chased around for bloods and canulas, even being pulled out of ward rounds for discharge summaries.
This is where I feel PAs could have helped.

Knowledge that should have been memorised by rote on ward rounds are now just being learnt for exam purposes. Skills that should have been perfected at the bedside are now being learnt in PACES courses.Fundation doctors are getting greatixes based on how many discharge letters they could complete in a day.

Medical education in the NHS definitely needs a reform.
