It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update, but I am very excited to be spending the day at the Orthopaedic Foundation today to experience a cadaver shoulder arthroscopy and a head dissection!
These are some of the first vertical mattress sutures I ever did- they’re also a great example of what NOT to do! See how you can’t even see the blue material on the left? This is because the stitch is too tight, and would also make removing it harder in the future. More soon :)
I am very excited to say that I am going to be shadowing a physician for the first time tomorrow! I am going to be shadowing an anesthesiologist, and can’t wait to see the work he does!
I’m so proud to say that I will be continuing my education by studying chemistry in the fall at @cwru ! I am so excited for this next chapter in my life on my way to becoming a neurosurgeon! Go Spartans!🗡️
Forgot 2 post this yesterday, but here’s my first attempt at a running horizontal mattress stitch! I definitely need to work on lining up each side and keeping both sides of the skin together without it pulling, but I’m proud of my spacing! I used 5/0 silk braided for reference:)
Here are some simple interrupted stitches on a Y shaped cut from the other month. I united the edges of the center of the Y with the one centermost stitch, and used 3/0 nylon all throughout.🪡
Newest running stitch! I would have liked better margins, but I was trying to focus on not pulling the skin so much more than the margins this time. Also, I ran out of the clear suture partially through, so I had to continue with 3-0 nylon:)
Day 2 of dissecting a fetal pig in anatomy! Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures, but my group and I are having so much fun looking at all the different organs!🫀🫁
Sorry you can barely see it (clear suture!), but here is my most recent running locking stitch. Now, I am working on non-stop stitching where I don’t go back and fix anything that could have been better:)
It’s been a while but here is a new stitch for you! Running locking almost all the way through but I ran out of suture since I was using the rest of an older piece so I didn’t waste any! More to come:)
I just got this notebook in the mail from Johns Hopkins University! This is so great- now I have the perfect place to keep my science notes! Thank you @JohnsHopkins
Simple interrupted stitches for a notch v-shaped cut on a piece of “mock skin,” my suture pad (from Artagia Med), using 4-0 nylon monofilament. Still not perfection but working harder every day!
Getting started early! I wanted to try out different stitches so I ordered a piece of model skin online. I’ve tried a few so far! I’m still practicing, but this picture shows a corner mattress, simple interrupted and running locking stitches!
