As pointless as debate usually is, the right consistently has a better understanding of the rest of the political spectrums views than either centrists or leftists - I suspect a lot of that is because the right don't tend to stay in their bubbles and have often been there before

In my time engaged in online politics, having shifted on several issues - one rule of thumb I find is that in any particular debate usually the side that is more familiar with the other sides arguments and understands where they come from wins
