A1. Chronic steroid use (taking steroids for >6 months) is the most common risk factor for bone disease. Its so important to discuss how to optimize one's bone health as soon as someone is prescribed steroids. #creakychats

@JosephCoe@CreakyJoints Its based on BMI (body mass index which is calculated via ones height and weight). Too HIGH of a BMI and too LOW of a BMI are both risk factors for osteoporosis #CreakyChats
@CreakyJointsAus But I think if someone is perimenopausal and has many risk factors for osteoporosis, earlier DEXA scan should be considered. #CreakyChats
@CreakyJointsAus Perimenopausal women still have estrogen which is protective of the bones, which is why the recommendation is for screening when estrogen is really deficient - as it is in menopause. #creakychats
