One in three NHS consultant child psychiatry posts are vacant in England.
However, this year there were 4650 applications to psychiatry but only 492 training spaces. We are turning away future psychiatrists because the government has put a restriction on training numbers.
Why?
Unfortunately, a tabloid newspaper has got hold of a music video I recorded in Islington North with an iconic grime artist I've admired for years.
They are planning to publish a heavily edited clip, so I'm releasing the full version myself. Watch here: https://t.co/vwNGQN2wqU

@AnahitaS My first ever blood on a patient was on a consultant haematologist....she didn't tell me fortunately until afterwards, though I had my suspicions when she said more blood was needed in the FBC bottle 😅

Today, I'm thinking of all those in Israel and Palestine suffering unimaginable pain, trauma and fear.
The horrific attacks on civilians in Israel were deplorable. This cannot justify the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians, who are paying the price for a crime they did not commit.
Half of Gaza’s population are children. Trapped in an open-air prison without food, water, gas or electricity, they are watching their homes turn to rubble with nowhere to go.
We should condemn the use of violence against all civilians, Israeli and Palestinian. And we must renew our calls for an immediate ceasefire to prevent any further loss of life.
In times of war, we need more voices for peace — and the only way to achieve peace is to end the occupation.
Israel and Gaza are not two countries at war. Gaza is a territory under siege, where every aspect of life is controlled by Israel.
Palestinians didn’t break through a “border” to enter Israel. They destroyed a fence separating them from the homes they were forced out of.
International doctors looking for jobs in the UK.
The better way to find a job in the UK 🇬🇧 is still passing the PLAB or Membership exams.
These two pathways will get you GMC registration & freedom to choose where you like to work.
➡️Membership exams are harder, but a higher qualification than PLAB.
⚠️ Full membership exams are required for registration using that route. Not just a few parts.
✅ Full list or acceptable membership exams for GMC registration are on the GMC website
https://t.co/AbuFVNhlID
You will find exams like
MRCS, MRCP, MRCOG & MRCPsych on this list.
They can be done while working in Pakistan & training for FCPS.
⚠️ There are international versions of some of these Royal college exams that you need to be careful with as they won't be acceptable for GMC registration like MRCGP international.
➡️ The other two common paths to GMC registration are MTI & Sponsorship route.
With these, you are dependent on a hospital or Royal College to offer you a job first & sponsor your registration.
These posts are few & infrequent.
➡️ MTI is technically temporary post in UK for like 2 years on Tier-5 visa which will not become British passport.
✅ But GMC registration achieved by MTI is permanent.
So doctors are entering the UK on MTI & afterwards finding other jobs to get Tier-2 visa.
Tier-2 visa or Healthcare visa will become British Passport in 6 years.
🛑 MTI schemes are sometimes linked with CPSP like institutes but sometimes also advertised directly by hospitals & Royal colleges
I will give you some examples.
♻️Thete is a well established MTI scheme via RCPsych advertised every year around January.
Psychiatrists from the world apply & and interview happens around April.
Royal College of Psychiatrists after selecting candidates will place them in different areas around the UK.
Nothing to do with CPSP.
Your GMC registration is sponsored by RCPsych. Link os below
https://t.co/93HjeoA0gz
♻️ There is an MTI scheme via the Royal College of O&G
Advertised yearly & recruitment happen in a systematic manner.
All information in on their website link on how you qualify
https://t.co/bEdKevbBih
♻️ Royal College of Pathology also advertise one MTI scheme
https://t.co/T3i4PLiso4
➡️ Regarding the sponsorship route.
This is if some particular trust is happy with your skills. They can sponsor your GMC registration.
The list of which trust can sponsor is on GMC website
When the trust is already getting GMC registrated doctors, they won't do the effort of sponsoring in most cases unless they are particularly interested on your skills
https://t.co/R6Wpoad1YZ
🛑But from time to time, you will see NHS trust advertising International fellowships
This is to invite doctors from abroad & sponsor their registration.
These posts are relatively few & come out infrequently. The competition would be tougher.
➡️ Overall, for people already in training, as for FCPS
The best pathway is to pass the membership exam
The question what kind of job you will get after membership exam?
Will you get training?
You can get middle grade job in UK easily after membership exam at non training level.
Sometimes even Locum Consultant posts are also given.
You can work towards CESR in non training job.
If you want training jobs
Membership exams + Alternative competencies form will make you eligible to apply for ST training, which will lead to CCT.
What a malicious was to impose an agenda from Russells Halls Hospital @DudleyGroupNHS, pretending to have doctors best interests at heart and blocking locums to retaliate against people using their employment rights.

Everyone is surprised about how senior NHS management have acted in the LL case.
Except doctors. I've not seen a single doctor say they were surprised.
(You don't count if you're also an exec)
@UKGastroDr Everyone instinctively knows that if Lucy had been a nurse from India, the Phillipines or Nigeria, she would've been sacked at the earliest red flag, & rightly so given her crime.
This case clearly demonstrates how white privilege can prove detrimental to *everyone*.

A THREAD
1 in 50 Londoners is now homeless. On average at least one child in every London classroom is homeless.
This is an absolute scandal & should be front page news. The number of homeless residents in temporary accommodation in London is now just under 170,000. 83,500 are children
We are at crisis point with our policing.
This month, in Croydon alone, a Black man has died in police custody, and a woman was handcuffed by police officers in front of her young, crying son, over a £1.75 bus ticket which she had paid.
