Jesus said:
“But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.”
— Matthew 12:36
These words alone should utterly change the Christian’s approach to social media.
@The_NewCovenant@adielcorchado Not seals of the covenant - because that has been accomplished by the Holy Spirit - but they do identify God’s church in a physical world. But the day is coming when all of these things will cease because they are no longer needed in a future glorified world.
@The_NewCovenant@adielcorchado necessary, making them unique to this age (what some call “the already and not yet.”) This is not to suggest that any of these things are unimportant. They are as important as the Law and sacrifice was under the old covenant. They are the marks of God’s people in this age -
“Both religion and science require a belief in God. For believers, God is in the beginning, and for physicists He is at the end of all considerations… To the former He is the foundation, to the latter, the crown of the edifice of every generalized world view.”
- Max Planck
The church acts most carnally when “momentum matters more than mending,” when it leaves the one for the sake of the 99. Thankfully the real Good shepherd always does the opposite.
@GraceMothering I’m not at all suggesting God is threatened by human challenge (Ps 2:4), or that we cannot question Him (David, Ps 10, 13), or that even our wrestling with Him doesn’t lead to submission (Jacob). And I’m also definitely not suggesting parents can save their children.
@GraceMothering Maybe I am sticking on the nuances of the word “challenge.” If “challenge” means “question,” or “appeal,” I agree 100%. If “challenge” means “defy,” then I would challenge you! 😂
@GraceMothering God places parents as the authority over children for a season; and in a sense, we represent His authority (though imperfectly). To encourage challenge or rebellion against our authority as parents could result in their ultimately challenging God. Thoughts?
@GraceMothering I think when they are old enough, parents ought to teach and model for their children how to make a respectful appeal to authority, which would include our own authority as parents. Parents need to be open to reason, but not rebellion.
