An honour to support Senator Ishikawa @ishikawataiga as he attended gathering at Mexican Embassy to mark conclusion of Mexico/ Germany co-presidency of Equal Rights Coalition (2022-2024). I am extremely grateful for experiences & opportunities to learn as one of his secretaries.
An honour to attend yesterday’s meeting w/ Sen. Ishikawa (in my role as his secretary), Sen. Fukushima & members of Thailand Lower House of Parliament who serve on Committee for Children, Youth, Women, Older Persons, Persons w/Disabilities, Ethnic Groups and LGBTQ Community.
Thought I was looking in mirror & seeing my younger self when I met artist Mateo Ivatek at APOX FF! That moment was immortalized in yesterday’s paper, so we recreated it while holding the paper. 😂Mateo’s gorgeous paintings will be auctioned as a fundraiser during the FF.
Opening film “Maka” is one of my favourite picks of the festival.❤️ “Geneviéve Makaping, the first Black news editor in Italy, speaks out against the media representation of immigrants and offers an evocative examination of the intersection between sexism and racism in Italy.”
4 flights, a ferry, a 3-hour car ride & 24h later, made it to beautiful Veli Lošinjc, Croatia just in time for 1st day of APOX FF! 🙏🎥 After receiving best doc for @ushikufilm last year, honoured to serve on jury & give speech at opening ceremony this year.
🇯🇵🎖️🇩🇪 #MarionKlomfass#Auszeichnung#NC
Japan remains reluctant to accept refugees. The warm welcome to around 2,500 Ukrainians appears at first glance to be a striking exception to decades of policy. The understanding that they will return to Ukraine after hostilities end, is a major factor. https://t.co/JdVSIIOCJz
Wishma was 18th foreigner to die in Japanese immigration detention since 2007. The country has one of the lowest refugee acceptance rates in the world and her death has increased pressure on officials to reform how people held in such centres are treated. https://t.co/9d2bUVbX0G
"If you are looking to reach a highly intelligent, engaged, and creative group of folks passionate about health and science, this is the place!" (Karen Akins, @ElSustoMovie)
📽️#Filmmakers! Don't miss out!
Early bird deadline for #GHFF2023 is this Friday 30 June on @FilmFreeway
@sakamoto_kosaku@GHFilm@shadowgamefilm@ushikufilm@Olympics@MOJ_HOUMU Problem is, refugees often have no choice re: where to go. Since visa (tourist, business, sports, etc)needed to fly, sometimes must go to any country they can get visa. Ironically, sometimes this includes those w/ Olympics-affiliated sports visas. Sapporo Games = more refugees
@sakamoto_kosaku@GHFilm@shadowgamefilm@ushikufilm With all the news about reforms to immigration law that would make situation for asylum seekers in Japan worse, I completely missed that story. Thank you for pointing that out. 💰 💰 💰 indeed. Yet more sportswashing by the @Olympics and the Ministry of INjustice @MOJ_HOUMU
June is designated as "Illegal Stay and Illegal Employment Prevention Month", and various public relations activities will be carried out by the authorities. Street activities will also be conducted, and mascots that monitor and eliminate foreign nationals will make appearances.
