@ciarannugent Probably less in reality. If they have any sense they will be maxing out pension contributions and getting tax relief at 40%. If this person is aged 50 they could be putting 34k into a private pension that grows tax free and reducing annual tax/PRSI/USC to just under 37%
@SineadOS1 Great analysis. The scars of the nation being broke with the excess housing up to 2013 took a while to heal! But yes, past time to step up the vision, the infrastructure and the pace. And to cull out of date institutions & delivery methods- charities delivering state services!
@ciarannugent What’s behind the big increase in sickness benefits? Since 2019, it’s growing much faster than pensions when sickness might be expected to increase in line with aging. Is a higher % of the working age population becoming sick? Are sickness benefits more generous?
@irishexaminer Misleading headline! It’s a survey. It’s the number of new rental offers willing to accept HAP that have halved not that the number of HAP tenancies nationally have halved.
@EmployRightsIE Misleading stats. Inflation was 65% over this period. Inflation adjusted the base for 2000 is 23.1billion. Population increased by 40%. Population at work increased by 58%. More people living longer and spending and more people working = higher tax take 🤷🏻♀️
@karldeeter Only 3% of the social welfare budget goes on admin. The rest is mostly direct payments to citizens- HAP, working family payments, pensions, disability, children’s allowance, carers, fuel allowance. Big numbers not necessarily evidence of waste.
@karldeeter Almost doubling of the pension age population from 435k in 2000 to 861K in 2025… I’d say seeing our parents live longer and at less risk of poverty is worth some government spending. spending.
@SineadOS1 In 2023 among EU countries only Sweden and Denmark had lower road fatalities per capita per than Ireland. Ditto in 2024. 2025 not yet published. Ireland has one of the LOWEST levels road fatalities and it IMPROVED between 2023 and 2024. Cut it by KM of road and we may be best.
@deirdrenugent4@conor_pope Having experienced 10 years of fair deal with a dementia patient, I agree there seems to be little HSE control across homes on what ‘extras’ are allowed and charges are creeping up. But, you can now rent out the house for extra income. This wasn’t allowed a few years ago.
@theGaffer_10 @ireland_talks @CrokePark He started at 7.15 tonight .. possibly because so many people still queuing outside. We hit a stationery queue at 6.15 and finally entered the pitch at 7.45. Maybe more open turnstiles to deal with a sold out gig.😁
The Shiba Inu. They may be small, but there Japanese dogs have a double coat and when they get wet, they need a lot of drying.
Tonight, this lovely girl will put on her new DogDry after her wet walk so she won’t spread her damp doggyness all over her home. #HappyCustomers
