The UK poultry industry produces 3.5 million tonnes of chicken 💩every year. Too much ends up polluting our rivers.
Now the government wants even more industrial chicken farming. https://t.co/nGIqp2A1jZ
Burning wood emits high levels of carbon dioxide, often exceeding fossil fuels like coal and natural gas per unit of energy produced. While considered renewable, it creates significant "carbon debt," releasing decades of stored carbon instantly while requiring years for regrowth.
“We think we’re being so clever… wading into countries about which our governments often seem to know very little”
Writer George Monbiot references the “imperial blowback” of Britain’s past interference in Iran, and warns against not considering “long term consequences”

Please don’t teach children that burning wood is somehow environmentally friendly. Firepits, charcoal BBQs & bonfires emit 4.2kt of PM2.5 -7.5% of the UK total & more than double all road vehicle exhaust emissions. 1 in 11 CYP have asthma & wood smoke is a trigger & harms health
This is a special type of example of how beholden to Farage the UK media really is.
They scoured his testimony and found one part when he wasn't being lambasted.
Farage was utterly humiliated in front of the world today. Not that you'd know it if you only watch Sky.
Shocking.
In journalism it's important to reflect both sides of an argument, to listen, to try and understand nuance and different perspectives, to be aware of your own bias.
But sometimes it's also important to state facts, and to call out facts that are not true
This is a crisis across the country.
For every ten microgram per cubic meter (µg/m³) of increased exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), the risk of dying from any cancer rises by 22%.
Hello @Keir_Starmer I hope you’re having a good start to Christmas . I didn’t know who else to write to so I’m hoping you can help . Please make some calls & get this poor woman out of prison for Christmas . This doesn’t reflect well on the UK . Thanks #loveactually Please RT

In 1985, Carl Sagan told Congress that continuing to burn fossil fuels will increase global temperature, cause climate change, melt glaciers and ice sheets, and cause sea level rise. Imagine if we had listened to him them.
No time to wait. #ActOnClimate#climate
This is what the Observer team & I were doing between strikes. Please read it because it couldn’t be more relevant. I interview Asif Kapadia about his alarming new film, 2073, with its stark warning of where Trump, Musk & Farage are taking us..

A working group from the @RCPEdin said:
"We cannot underestimate the major health harms from wood smoke. It is linked to 40% of lung cancer in non-smoking women.”

@Lucyhudek1 Only a small percentage of the UK population burn wood yet produce more particulate pollution than all UK transport. Very few people actually rely on burning wood to keep warm. Research shows that the majority of those that choose to burn wood are wealthy & have alternative heat.
